Rockwell 6S - My review and impressions

Well a funny thing, because I just recently managed to try out the DE89 which for some reason I avoided so far. It's a tame razor indeed and the feel is comparable to the Rockwell on 3 or 4, but I still find the Rockwell more comfortable. The Rockwell is more efficient by far though.
So @Steve Bowles, my experience is just the opposite of yours (assuming the Muhle head being the same as the DE89); the Rockwell turned out to be more efficient as well as more comfortable than the DE89. YMMW.
Slants are a different story, I find my X3 gentler and less efficient than the Rockwell so I guess it's got a niche on it's own ;)

That sounds similar to my experience with the 6s. It I very smooth so it can feel less aggressive than it actually is.

I was a little underwhelmed when I first got the razor. It looks are very understated and it I so smooth the feel of the shave is again understated. The more I use it however the more I have appreciated its performance.

Just posting an update of my experiences with the Rockwell. This was sparked this morning by using baseplate#1, a baseplate that I haven't used until now thinking that it would be far too mild.

A few days ago I used baseplate#2, just for the hell of it, and found it just as good as #4 but much smoother in use. Very surprising. So today I tried #1. The shave itself felt very mild, as though it wasn't even cutting, but to my surprise the results were pretty close. Not exactly BBS but a very close DFS.

So this razor is an anomaly to me. There are 6 settings/baseplates that give different feels during use but the results can be quite similar. I'd say I could get a BBS from baseplates#2 upwards, a remarkable achievement.

Despite its industrial looks (looks like some tool you could get from B&Q) and its bulky weight (I actually prefer the weight of an ATT head) this razor's performance is in its own category.

@Steve the Rockwell on 2 and 3 is more efficient and just as smooth as the M1. I use plate 3 almost exclusively I haven't even tried the plates above 3 as it just hit the sweet spot for me there. It's a much better razor than the M1 for me. I do not even miss it not being SS.

I have often said that the 6s should be the official razor of Mac or Snap-On tools, and would look right at home in a tool chest. [emoji1]

Yesterday's shave was #3 plate and today's #2. I believe the #2 gives a closer shave than the other plates. Weird; as the numbers go up the shave itself is more aggressive but #2 gives me the best results.
Although on the heavy side, it does perform remarkable well, regardless of its price.
