Well, now I remember why the need for such deliberation... I'm a fussy git.

The Salter creams arrived this morning, to my nose the sandalwood smells of nothing but cinnamon, pass. The rose is a fairly pleasant scent, nothing to write home about but pleasant... Unfortunately its marred by what I can only assume is the cream base scent, it smells like Savlon to me... So, rose Savlon it is.

I had to use double the usual amount to generate a good lather, we're talking walnut rather than almond size here... And that was just enough to generate 2 passes worth of lather (I do have very hard water so that may be the culprit.)

In use the slickness and protection were seemingly very good, the scent developed for the better once on the face with the rose overpowering the Savlon.

Post shave was OK, slightly on the dry side. I did have quite a lot of irritation on my neck which one does not expect after using a Gillette Tech... Perhaps its not as protective as first thought?

So, a bit of a damning review from me I'm afraid. If you're interested in trying some Salter creams keep your eyes on the BST as these will be making their way there this afternoon.

Trumpers rose cream should be delivered Saturday so will compare when it arrives... It would be nice if it smelt like the coral skin food but I'm sure it won't.

...30% off all Trumpers at www.lookfantastic.com so I couldn't resist, would never pay the usual RRP (£17)

Scent is near identical to their coral skin food which is exactly what I was looking for, absolutely lovely... Scent strength is about right for me too. First use of a Trumpers cream and it seems to be on par with T&H, which is a good thing. A shame about the bright colour and parabens but I'm prepared to put up with them.

Overall I'd say a good buy for £12... And for me, way preferable to Cyril Salter but YMMV as is always the way.

Just used Vulfix old original english rose for the first time and I was very impressed, the scent was nice, it made a cracking face lather and got better every pass. And after the shave it left my face feeling very soft and smooth, loved it.
Thank you Paul aka @Blademonkey for the Vulfix, it was a very kind gesture.
I'm pleased you like it Vinny. :) P.

Just tried the discontinued T&H Rose (its still available in travel tube format from T&H but I have been informed once its gone, its gone.)

It has the greenest rose scent I've smelt yet in a cream, I'm sure I could smell the prickly stems as well as the flowers, it is a straight rose scent (not a hint of geranium to my nose, unlike the Salters which is a mix of the two.) Performance was a let down to be honest, my face suffered mild discomfort from the off and the slickness/protection were well below par, easily the poorest performing rose cream yet but i'll persevere and try it a few more times to be sure.

So far I'd rank my rose experience thusly:

1. Trumper
2. Salter
3. T&H

Next to try is TOBS :D
