2nd shave on this wonder of modern blades & simply marvelous.

Thursday shave

Warm bath Nivea Men Sensitive
Wilko Coconut & Vanilla body butter
RazoRock 400 Plissoft Noir
Palmolive stick (grated)
QShave Futur clone/ Feather Hi Stainless (2)
Hot/cold rinse
Proraso Green ASL

Three passes with the clone/ Feather
The clone still has the same issue of blade gap despite me taking it apart and re assembling.
I won't be using this razor again.
My face doesn't like Feather blades, no irritation but the ASLstung like a bitch !

I wasn't much impressed with the grated Palmolive stick. It didn't feel very cushioning and left my skin dry and tight feeling.

Sotd - Thursday - 22/6

Razor - Cobra Classic
Blade - Feather Super Pro
Brush - Semogue 1305
Soap - P&B Denali
Post - allum and witch hazel
A/S - Myrsol Formula K
Balm - Myrsol Emulsion.

Result - Great - bbs, cool and comfortable. I shaved my head too - not with a razor but with clippers. I have used a de on my scalp before but my partner isn't good with the look. Principally, I think because the top of my head is not a pretty place. Mostly a combination of a climbing fall as a teenager and - more recently - how can I put it? As Captain Willard says in Apocalypse Now - 'a little fishing accident on R&R, sir.' The Denali has an odd texture but works well for me. Even by P&B standards it takes a lot of extra moisture to get the lather to optimum. The Formula K Myrsol works very well with it - they are both quite minty - as opposed to just straight on menthol. I had to reach for the allum for the first time in ages - gave myself a couple of - not serious - weepers. I wasn't concentrating properly - I know why. I went into the main shave den for something else and there it was. Looking at me - with evil intent. My Feather AC folding - untouched for quite some time. Ok - I recently re-discovered my Cobra, a razor I though unusable when I got it but gives me superb shaves with a bit more experience. Time to revisit the Feather? Maybe, maybe. Enjoy your shaves - cheers - I.

'Apocalypse Soon' was always my mindset when I started DE shaving

It's in my all time top 5. Ever read Heart of Darkness? Conrad's novel on which Apocolpse Now is based?

What you said - also - in addition to the Conrad book - one of my favourite fiction works, he was writing in his fourth language and the prose remains beautiful - Coppola cites T.S Eliot's Wasteland as an important influence on the screen play. Lastly - and perhaps most surprisingly - the medieval Fisher King/Grail myth is deeply woven in there, although modified in the film. Saigon - shit. I.

++1 On Conrad and Heart of Darkness...

It's a genuinely multilayered film. As for the novel, I revisited it recently and it remains incredibly powerful for me. In my opinion, although he seems to go in and out of favour, Conrad explores the human 'condition' like few other novelists. I bow to your obviously considerable cultural knowledge Ian!
