S.O.T.D. Saturday 1st April to Friday 7th April 2017

SOTD - Wednesday 5/4.

Razor - Slim Aristocrat - G4
Blade - Polsilver - Wizamet Lodz (1)
Brush - Vie Long 75th anniversary two band
Soap - Agua de Colonia Barberia cream
Post - Allum & witch hazel
A/S - Floid Mentolado Vigoroso L/E
Balm - Agua de Colonia Barberia moisturiser.

Result - outstanding, I really enjoyed that. Smoother than a lightly buttered otter - to paraphrase somebody else's catchphrase . Spanish themed because - last night - myself and my other half booked a trip to Alicante and Valencia for the end of the month. Happy days. I don't know why the Colonia Barberia cream doesn't have a higher profile. It's outstanding in every way. The match of any other top-end cream I've used. Thick protective lather, superior slickness and great post-shave skin feel. The scent is beautiful - opens with citrus which moves onto more herb notes, set on a base of wood and musk. It smells - well -Mediterranean. If that sounds good for you, try it. You get a big 200ml tub for your money and it has an air tight inner lid - underneath the usual screw cap - that keeps everything fresh. Finished off with matching balm which is great, although it's - relatively - quite expensive but works well for me. It's got goji berries in it apparently - I have no idea what a goji berry is. Quite pricey it seems. Finally - I was inspired by the many great pics today of Slims to reach for mine. It's a G4 gold slim - so, fourth quarter 1961? It was gifted to me by a now retired work colleague. He knew I was an old-school wet shaver and somehow mentioned this to his wife - the razor was her father's daily shaver and she had kept it after he died. She wanted it to go to someone who would use it and value it - which I do. I was deeply touched. The Slim was not far off mint - a couple of wear marks on the plating of the 'bomb doors' - just from years of use - not from damage and some slight loss of the paint on the adjustment ring. Beautiful. It shaves like a dream. I wouldn't have offended him with an offer of money but he retired shortly afterwards and I got them a significantly good bottle of Highland Park malt. Honour satisfied. He also gave me another razor that is unique. That's another story. Enjoy your shaves gentleman. I.

Absolutely lovely shaving tonight. Solaris has an exquisite scent that's still lingering, slowwwwwly fading away. So nice! I used a suribachi again to lather and it was another lather explosion like yesterday. I think I'm enjoying this almost too much...

Greetings,
let me start by saying after my 'sotd' on tuesday 4/4/2017. disaster struck in my shaving den!..as always after i've finished my shave i always clean my kit, i had my Parker 22R twisted open upside down, to get the excess water & moisture out of it before i put it back into it's storage box, then by pure accident it fell off the windowsill and buckled one of the doors which was beyond repair.:(..a lesson of which i hope won't happen again...the razor has now went to the DE graveyard to be recycled, luckily i have a 3 more parker razors,so i don't have to rush out and purchase another..oh well, you live nad learn.
Back to today's shave..my fatip grande/gillette silver blue duo is a wonderful match, resulting in a 3 pass + pick ups silky smooth shave with no errors to report. The proraso sandalwood soap & a/s splash is such a excellent match leaving my face feeling smooth fresh, and smelling devine.Enjoy your day, ladies & gentlemen.
