Sotd - Sunday 22/10 -

Razor - Schick I1
blade - vintage Schick twin (lost count)
brush - Maseto 24mm Finest
soap - Tabac puck
post - witch hazel
a/s - Tabac
balm - Russian Vitamin F.

Result - what's not to like?

I didn't know where to go with this afternoon's shave - a nothingy sort of west-central Scotland day. Citrus or RazoRock fake Aventus sprang to mind initially. I looked over other people's posts today for inspiration. I think I have some sort of Pavlovian response to seeing Tabac written down - you can immediately smell it?. Tabac it was - they put some sort of addictive chemical in the scent surely? What's not been said before. The Schick was great - for such a light razor it pays no heed to stubble. I wonder what it's like with a single blade? I've only ever used the twins. Thanks to K. - @Boru62 - for helping me identify which model it is. Apparently it's unusual because it is chrome and not gilt. So - to the concerning part of the shave. This Maseto has been losing a few hairs. Three or four shaves in without incident - then it shed half a dozen for the next two or three uses - less today but it's still concerning. Maybe it's just breaking in? Either way - given that it's in a rotation and that the knot is so densely stuffed it will probably outlive me, no problem. Unusually I finished a product this afternoon - a proud moment in any serious shaver's career - the last of my Tabac after shave. Fear not gentle reader - there is a bottle double the size unopened in the back up den. Nice. Enjoy your shaves one and all - yours - I.

If the Rocnel-SE had blade stops, or a head which had an extra 2-3 mm in width, then I would argue that the their 'modern' gem would be a classic. Having never shaved with a 1912, I don't know how the two razors compare, however, I find the Rocnel to be a fabulous razor.

That said, the Blackland Sabre, in my mind is a classic razor. I appreciate that YMMV :) I would love to hear how others feel the 1912 compares with the Sabre.
My point was, the 1912 remains a standard bearer for Gem bladed razors after all these years.
And the short comings of the ATT and Rocnel show how difficult it is to get it right. I'm sure if both companies continue to make this style of razor they will get it right.
I didn't mention the Blackland Sabre because, from what I gather they've made a good fist of it.
I'll hopefully be finding this out for myself in the near future. :)

Today is my 'promotion' SOTD. I start my new role today (was team senior, now manager) and I the shave was an immediate 'this is what I'll use'. Something powerful, special and worthy of a great day such as this. My face feels superb, and the scents are stunning.

A Tale of Two Razors Today
The Ford and Medley was the first traditional straight I ever bought. It has served me well for just over a year of regular shaving with occasional visits to a slurried felt paddle and lots of leather. Two passes this morning gave me a Socially Acceptable Shave....but there was no way It was going to do an ATG pass so that is where the Star took over to finish with BBS shave. A visit to a Honemeister is required me thinks!

Razor: Gillette 1930's OC Ball End Made in Canada
Blade: Personna Tungsten 74 (13)
Brush: Elite Razor Tres Amigo w/ Sunset Synthetic
Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Private Study
A/S: Floid Amber

Great way to start a week with different shave equipment. The brush easily whipped up the Private Study into a thick, slick, protective lather.

Nice set up!!
Mine looks like a blind cave mans compared to yours!

Pre: Warm water face wash
Brush: Maseto 24mm ST
Soap: Figaro Red
Razor: Souplex
Blade: Shark SS
Post: Warm then cold water rinse, Homemade Skinfood

Another very short combed British razor, another marzipan croap and another very good shave.
The Figaro isn't quite as slick as the Vitos nor the Shark as smooth as the Nacet, but still a great start to the week.
