Another great Shave with this Razor, even dispensed with usual Alum Rub as not really needed.Have now reached the stage, where a change is needed as like many others want the challenge of using a different Razor.

Will return to the Supply now I have changed to the 3 dot plate, as the 2 was not working with a mild blade.

SOTD 29 DEC.JPG

Pre Shave: Hot Shower and Proraso Red
Razor: Ikon El Jefe + SE Handle
Blade: Feather Pro Guard (#1)
Brush: Kent BLK4
Soap: Tabac
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Thayers unscented
AS: Nivea Replenishing Balm

The Kent brush whipped up a fantastic lather, but I suspect any brush could get a decent lather out of the Tabac soap, it really is that easy to lather. This is a first outing of the Feather Pro Guard blade in the El Jefe, this blade type worked really well for me in the Razorock Hawk and as far as the closeness of the shave went it delivered. Probably the closest all over shave I have had, the only issue was that I got four small weepers under my chin area, they closed up easily with water and alum. I really noticed the alum block in some other places as well but there was no irritation and post AS balm all was good.

I am thinking that the El Jefe is going to be more aggressive than the Razorock Hawk, but maybe it is too early to tell. I will be trying both the El Jefe and the Hawk with a Feather Pro next time I change blades, but for now I will see how the Feather Guard works for me in these razors.

My First Straight Razor Shave.

Prep: Hot shower and L'Oreal charcoal face wash
Pre: king of shaves pre shave oil and hot towel
Razors: Drew Dick 6/8 custom and Blackbird with OC base plate.
Razor blade: Polsilver (2)
Brush: shavemac snowman 2 Band silvertip
Cream: Castle Forbes Lavender
Post: Thayers witch hazel and Myrsol Emulsion

This was my first time using a Straight Razor and to quote some philosopher (I forget his name) it was "a piece of piss":p. Only joking.
Joking aside, it went really well. I only went WTG and didn't do a full shave, just my cheeks and below the jaw line.

The razor was a bit tuggy. I'm not sure whether it was my technique or it needed stropping before hand. I would have thought it should have been sharp enough coming straight Drew, but I'll see next time I use it.
I did strop it afterwards though.

I wasn't blown away with the Castle Forbes cream. The performance was OK but I found it lacking in protection and slickness.

First time using the Blackbird with the OC base plate. I preferred it to the SB plate but I found the teeth to be very sharp and uncomfortable to use. It did give me a close shave though.
I'm afraid it will have to go back to Shane to be polished and to take the sharp edges off.

Although the shave was a mixed bag I finished feeling (smooth) invigorated and excited to use the SR again.

Sorry for the long post.
Cheers
Rob

Great to hear how your first SR shave went, I have yet to take the plunge with an SR so I was interested to read how it went.

Well done with your first go with the straight Rob, it's a pity that you have to send the blackbird back after waiting so long for it. (Bugger)
