Thur 2nd Feb
Omega 11137 boar
Lea Classic soap
ES Claymore S/S Single Edge
Schick Proline P-20 [ 1 ]
Alum Rub/Rinse off
Lea Classic A/S Lotion

My introductory Shave with this Schick 50mm blade , and chose to load it into the Highland Heavyweight, the ES Claymore. Though the Shave is smooth, one can feel the blade working
immediately. I reckon that those with a light beard could get a superb shave with 2passes.

Really pleased with this purchase, and have ordered more for the Storehouse. In doing so came
across reference to the Pro Line B-20 which is a 38mm blade. Wonder if this would be good to go in a Vintage Injector. Why is getting these Japanese Schicks such a chore.

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: S.M.Novella pre-shave
Soap: TOBS - Lemon & Lime cream
Bowl: Fine Accoutrements
Brush: L'Occitane synthetic
Razor: Rockwell 4S, plate#4
Blade: Sputnik (2)
After: WH, Pinaud Clubman Vanilla AS, C&E W.Indian Lime ASB

Second shave with my new Rockwell and a big improvement on yesterday. That was using the #3 plate which to me felt like the EJ DE89 razor in that it was very smooth but not close enough. Today using the #4 plate felt much closer; the razor seemed to be sucked onto the skin. The result was DFS with zero irritation but not quite as close as my ATT R1. So tomorrow I'll step up to the #5 plate and see how that does.
After several years this TOBS cream has become a hard soap! I had to scrape off some into my lather bowl. It still performed excellently though; simply citrus.

Have a thankful Thursday folks.

Thursday -

Another (mostly) green themed shave.

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's cold-tar soap and Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (green).
Razor - Muhle Rocca R96.
Blade - Astra (green) SP (day 5).
Soap - Proraso Shaving Soap Eucalyptus Green
Brush - Simpsons Duke 2.
Post shave - Proraso After Shave Lotion (green) and Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus Liquid Cream Aftershave Balm.

Happy again with the results: nice, comfortable, close, fuss free 2 pass shave, no need for a touch-up, which I was surprised about as the Astra I had used was on day 5.

All the best,

Chris

On The Road Again

A new month, a new trip. This time I brought with me this Mastro Livi Double Damascus San Mai razor which I added to my collection almost four years ago. It shaves like the first day: a good run on the loom strop, followed by hand palm stropping and the razor was ready to deliver the best shave. In this shave I also used the shaving products I make at home as a hobby: my pre-shave oil, almond oil shaving soap and bay rum. When I travel I always take with me my shaving products and I like using them all in the same shave as this makes me feel, like to say, at home.

  • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
  • Soap: RazorGuy Crema da Barba all'Olio di Mandorla
  • Brush: Omega Bristle 83
  • Bowl: Chinese Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi Double Damascus San Mai, 15/16 Full Hollow, Barber's Notch
  • Post-Shave: Alum Block
  • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
  • After Shave: RazorGuy Bay Rum

Friday...

Soap - Valobra Menthol
Brush - Semogue 1520 boar
Face lather
Razor - Gem Flat Head Top
Blade - Gem Personna #3
Post - Thayer's and Floïd MV

I'd had my eye on Valobra for a while and thought that the croap would contain tallow, like the stick. However, it contains et al glycerin, palm oil, cocoa. It is a tremendous soap, imo (the Italians really do excel in most things that float my boat: food, history, architecture, grooming). The menthol is more subtle in this soap; compared to Proraso but gives a nice cooling feel. The 150g cake squidged nicely into an old TOBS pot that I was saving for a suitably malleable croap.

The Valobra performed beautifully: slick and protective, and combined really well with the Gem. Nice cool burn from Floïd to finish.

Be well, folks.

Prep: Shower
Razor: GEM Contour II
Blade: GEM Stainless Coated
Brush: Tuxedo Knot Vie Long Handle
Soap: Arko Stick Grated
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDP: Miller Harris Le Fumee Maroc

This shave is worthy of comment for it's mediocrity although I didn't really expect much more.

This razor I have owned for several years and in all that time this is about my fourth shave with it. It is in my personal opinion the only 'dud' that GEM made in their lengthy history and the only GEM that I feel is nearly impossible to get a really good shave with; it is also; whether by coincidence or not, the very last razor they made before calling time and ceasing trading.

The razor is super mild which I feel just does not seem to really work with SE razors, I am not an 'aggression junkie', but this razor is silly mild to the point where four passes and touch ups still leaves a little bit of stubble, a sad ending to the number one name in single edge razor production.

I should say right here that some people get on well with the Contour 2 but you sometimes find they are actually talking about the Contour which is the previous model and more often seen and which I too can get a good shave with.

Regards
Dick.

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Elite Razor Blue Lapis Lotus, Manchurian White (26mm/57mm)
Westphal's shaving cream (vintage)
Feather AS-D2/Stork Advoco Titanium
Wilkinson Light Brigade (5)
YSL Rive Gauche aftershave

The new brush is fantastic, and the Westphal's made wonderful thick, fragrant lather. Rive Gauche is becoming a favorite aftershave.
