S.O.T.D. Saturday 7th January to Friday 13th January 2017

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Argan Oil
Soap: Phoenix & Beau - Obsidian
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Brush: Mervyn 24mm silvertip
Razor: PAL Injecto-matic
Blade: Schick (Chick) Injector (2)
After: WH, Pinaud Clubman Vanilla AS, Village Barber ASB

This PAL Injecto-matic surely is at a pinnacle of SE razor evolution. No-touch blade loading, light and maneuverable. Super grippy and comfortable handle. Blade length perfect for flats or curves of the face. Tiny head profile to get under the nose. I dare say it'd bounce undamaged if dropped on the floor. It's cheap and is even handsome to boot.
My main point about this razor though is that it shaves so bloody well.

@Norfolkdick : Hope you feel better soon. I'm not doing too well myself so commiserate with you.

Thursday 12th January 2017
Prep: Shower
Razor: Unbranded French
Blade: Kampfe Bros. Star
Brush: Vulfix 404 Handle, Cashmere 24mm Synthetic Knot
Soap: Vitos Extra Super
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDP: Chanel No. 19

My first shave since last Saturday as I've been flat on my back in bed with a shocking bout of sciatica that I have had for seven weeks and was going, when it returned with a vengeance. The first time for many years I have missed a single days shave.

This new synthetic knot arrived yesterday from Ottawa Canada and I fitted it into my old 404 handle (here is the link)
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/491593383/24mm-cashmere-synthetic-extra-dense?ref=related-0

My first impressions are that I like it a lot, quite how much I am unsure as yet and I need a few shaves with it, it is a finer fibre than the Tuxedo knot from the same company and as a result is easier to flex/splay, this suits me just fine but I fully accept that many will want a stiffer feel, I am and have always remained a big fan of the original Plisson knot which many find splays too easily, this knot is nearer in terms of flexibility to the Plisson than the RazoRock Plissoft. I will report back after further use.

Regards
Dick.

Brush: Omega 10015
Razor: Gillette Tech
Soap: Palmolive Shave Stick
A/S: Superdrug Sierran Breeze

I was asked by my friend what was the cheapest shave I could have so these were what I had that were the cheapest. Together it all comes to just under £15, with a Super-Max Super Platinum blade. I will be honest the shave was very good. You need decent tools but I think it comes down to technique as opposed to expensive or cheap tools. The tools are only as good as the person wielding them. As counter point tomorrow's shave will be my most expensive of each, today's shave will take some beating though. Haven't used my Tech in ages and today makes me wonder why.

In case anyone is curious the Tech was painted by my father at his garage and is painted in two Range Rover paints, Firenze Red and Santorini Black

+ 1 on the Gillette Tech, Palmolive Shave Stick ,Superdrug Sierran Breeze A/S.all superb, but not expensive products, the Gillette Tech is a wonderful little razor..superb. I'm going to try out the Super-Max Super Platinum blades with my new SOTD set up at the weekend..and your so right, it's down to your technique & preparation ,9 times out of ten...a bad worker blames his tools...superb shave set up which will match most higher priced shaving products.Regards.;)

I had always thought Super Max would be terrible but I have had 5 shaves across 2 blades and they have been nothing short of superb. Picked up 100 this morning on ebay for £5.50. Be interested to know what you think of them. Yes, the tools get blamed but often it's the worker at fault.

SOTD Head 11-01-17
Soap Williams mixed with Arko
Bristle Brush Van Der Hagen
Razor J.A. Henckels Friodur 6/8 on the spike the number 472
After shave Williams aqua velva sport
Eau de Toilette Vetiver de Puig
Lavazza express coffee
After a very heavy 24 hours there is no such thing as a hot shower. Combined so the soaps become a delight to foam, without scent but excellent foam, I tried just this Friodur, an excellent steel, something "hard" but shave without compassion. The after and the Vetiver, as if I had emptied a bucket of memories, result simply a gentleman

Thursday Evening: London

Soap - Palmolive stick
Brush - Omega 'Mixed Midget' bodger
Face lather
Razor - Gillette Travel Tech
Blade - Gillette 7 o' Clock Yellow
Post - Proraso white balm and Fine Platinum a/s

Travel kit tonight. The Travel Techs might be a bit gimmicky but, like other Techs, gives a great shave; especially with an assertive blade.

Off to see Bowie/Walsh's Lazarus at King's Cross tonight...

élan bowl, with electric mug warmer
Rooney 3/2 Faux Horn Finest (24mm/54mm)
Old Spice shaving soap (vintage)
Feather AS-D2/UFO Tornado
Wilkinson Light Brigade (4)
Barrister & Mann Reserve Spice aftershave sample

I actually didn't use the Old Spice cream shown because it started to smell kind of skunky to me and I tossed it out. The B&M aftershave, while not an exact match for the soap, does complement it well.

Even though it's not the most comfortable or easiest to use, the C1 does a great job on the head shave, baby dolphin balancing a cue ball smooth. I'd like to land a C3 and see how that feels. Shake Sharp v2 with a Blue was not very smooth but did a passable job with the beard but I think I'm going to call that experiment done and go back to modern stainless.
