Shave of the day Saturday 12th August- Fri 18th August 2017

Good Morning Paul

My Hessian strop is the back strop on my Neil Miller 3" Latigo strop and it is a very fine weave, really tight. There is some here on e-bay which has a more open weave but might be ok, if it's not you won't have lost much.

I do have several strops that I have made for my wedge blades backed with this old parachute harness and I can vouch that it works really well and takes paste just fine should you choose to use it, it is also the perfect width for 'wedge' blades. As the main strop I have used this Horween Chromexcel which I cannot recommend highly enough, it is available in 45mm so it's ideal.

Wed 15th August

Vulfix 404 mixed
Vitos Super Red croap
Schick E2.
Schick Proline AC Blade-Type B ( 2 )
Alum Rub / Rinse off
Massimo Dutti A/S lotion

My second use of this AC Type blade in the E2.It does calm this aggressive Razor down a bit, but there is a lot of blade feel which allows you to search out the areas where more work is required.

The E2 if handled with care delivers a really close Shave, which IMHO equates/surpasses those I have attained with the likes of the Mongoose,Claymore and General. It is very unlikely that I would choose it as a Razor for Daily Shaving, but used with care can deliver that Special Occasion Shave.

They don't make em like this anymore. Full beard and head shave with the Schick F and I forgot what it is AC blade. Aggressive but easy enough to manage. The F I find to be the best handling of all the injectors.

I love shave of the day postings, but please can you also give a small description of how the various items performed! This would help if others were considering a particular razor or blade. Just a thought which may help others just venturing into wet shaving.

Some do some don't. It depends on whether the poster is using something new to them.
If you see someone using something you're interested in just ask them what they thought. 9 times out if 10 they will be pleased to give you their thoughts.

Afternoon shave.

Baxters of California Face Wash, BBA Shave Oil.
P&B Albion.
Semogue 620.
EJD89.
Astra SP (1).
OSP Barbershop Aftershave Tonic.
BBA Post Shave Balm.

Less than 24 hours growth but I needed a touch-up, so to speak, before going out. So I reached for my trusted EJD89 and had a lovely mild, but effective shave. Could easily have settled for 2 passes, but went for the 3rd and was rewarded with BBS. Very enjoyable.

Afternoon gentlemen,
Unusual for me a positive shave report!:)
Finished early today, so got the tea cooking for when her ladyship comes in from work.
Straight in the shower and used my free sample of soap from Stirling called "pig trail"? Anyway it smells massively strong of freshly ground pine needles, very refreshing.
Decided to go with a totally new blade, the supermax made in India, this too was a free sample. Performance was better than I expected, quite smooth, but not particularly sharp, will only use this once. Popped it in the Rockwell on #3 .
Soap of choice was Stirling "gin and tonic on the rocks" reasonable amount of menthol in it, certainly enough to give a bit of a chill.
As with all Stirling soaps performance was top notch.
Finished off with another free sample , this time Stirling's executive man aftershave balm, again a great smell, it appears at first quite thick, but rubs in very quickly, leaving no glossiness.
A quick squirt of Atkinson's triple extract and I smell very nice indeed, even if I do say it myself.:)
Have a nice evening fellas.

Thank you, the memsab has gone mad on them this year, both red and yellow.
Unfortunately though our usual display of hollyhocks will be worse than disappointing, no idea why, but it compounds the fact that we are not going to get back to Ile de rhe this year, the island has fantastic examples outside almost every home.

Pre: Lots of cold water
Brush: Maseto 24mm ST
Cream: Dove
Razors: Gillette SR, Eclipse RR
Blade: Gillette 7 o'Clock yellow
Post: More cold water, Dove PSB

I decided to pit my two favourite DEs against each other today, to see how they get on. Both are loaded with a new 7 o'C yellow. BRB...

.... First pass wtg, right side first with the Gillette. Second pass xtg, left side first with the Eclipse.
There's definitely more blade feel from the Old Type but a quick caress between passes and both razors are tying.
Second pass the Eclipse is deceptively smooth and the Gillette goes about its business in a workmanlike fashion.
A rinse with cold water and a rub with the alum block shows no irritation. Fingertips discover no discernible difference in closeness, a DFS all round.
I have to call it a draw.
If you prefer to feel the blade when you're shaving, the SR's for you, if not the RR's the one.
Me? I love them both.
