Shave of the day Saturday 19th August-Friday 25th August 2017

Thursday

Olive Oil Soap and Groomed Facial Scrub
Proraso PreShave Cream
Nanny's Arabian Nights Soap
Zenith Boar Brush
Ever-Ready 1924 with A GEM SS Blade(#1)
Alum Block and rinse
Arko Classic Cream
Benjamins Mentholated Bay Rum
Molecule 01 EDP

Not the most satisfying shave today. My first shave with a Shovelhead. The blade was a little more difficult to load so I didn,t use a shim. I think I have a travel version as the handle is very short and also very slippery. The overall result was ok...but I had a couple of weepers and it didn't pass the Alum test......oh and before anyone says......a bad workman always blames his tools!

Greetings All,

Tuesday shave.

One days' growth and warm shave

Preparation – face washed with Clique Liquid facial soap (mild)

Pre: None
Soap: P&B Spitfire
Razor: Rockwell 6C (4P)
Blade: Shark SS (1st)
Brush: RazoRock 400 Noir

Post Shave: Cold water rinse, then a shower and to conclude Proraso aftershave lotion (red) and Nivea 2 Phase.

I thought I would try the 4 Plate this morning and wow the difference between the 3P and 4P is quite marked – felt so much more of the blade. Managed 3 passes and what a shave. There are whiskers on my cheeks when shaving ATG my 3P cannot remove, but the 4P – wow. I will use this plate for a few days then maybe progress to 5P or 6P.

Can anyone tell me how much more aggressive 5P and 6P are for you. I note @Bizzyberry used his on Wednesday – thoughts?

Cheers,

Brian

Pre: Hot Shower
Cream: PS For Men
Razor: Rockwell 6S (4/4/2)
Blade: Gillette Wilinson Sword (3)
Brush: Parker Finest Badger
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel
A/S: Aqua Velva Musk
Balm: Rock Face Shaving butter

Another good shave. The Rockwell 6S is one of my favourite razors. Always gives me a great shave. The cream from Primark was a very nice surprise. Easy to lather, not bad on the slickness and good protection during the shave. Post shave feel isn't the best but the scent is wonderful. To me it has hints of Geo. F. Trumper Eucris, Wickham 1912 Magnum and D.R Harris Windsor and it's only £2 a tub! If you can get a hold of some, give it a go.

Thursday...leisurely shave

Soap - Tabac Original
Brush - Omega 10800
Face lather
Razor - Feather AC Japanese
Blade - Proguard #2
Post - alum and Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
After shave - Tabac Original

Lovely. Once the Proguards are finished, I'll opt for the non-guardy ones. The AC really is a joy to use. I could gave easily got away with two passes, but a third indulgence has left me even more smooth and very shiny. Tabac? Well...what needs to be said...?

That' s a nice combo of hints for £2, Kevy. It's worth it for a hint of Eucris alone.

Today's shave:

bm-fg.jpg

- Barrister & Mann Fougère Gothique
- Vie-Long 16510
- Merkur 34c with Sputnik blade
- Cien X-Bolt Aftershave

:)

I finally had a go at the much-hyped Fougère Gothique after my sample made it to this side of the pond. It's my first impression of the "Reserve" soap base, and having read it's a thirsty bugger I had no problems lathering it up. The scent of the dry soap is very earthy and reminds me of the B&M Petrichor or the Chiseled Face Sherlock. Lathered up, it changes to a warmer and sweeter scent, almost fruity, although the earthiness never goes away completely. The lather is not very voluminous, but dense and slick and provides for a smooth post-shave feeling. All in all, not bad.

I'm not a perfume expert, but I don't quite get why this is called a fougère. In my mind, a more descriptive name would have been "Autumn Yard Work", but I guess that doesn't really fit the whole devilish mystique they've created around it. ;)
