Shave of the day Saturday 9th Sept - Friday 15th Sept 2017

Greetings All,

Tuesday shave.

One days' growth and warm shave

Preparation – shower and face washed with Clique Liquid facial soap (mild)

Pre: None
Soap: RazoRock XXX
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Polsilver (2nd)
Brush:RazoRock 400 Noir (Face lather)

Post Shave: Cold water rinse, shower, then Proraso aftershave lotion (red) and Nivea Sensitive Cooling.

So my Merkur 34cc / Polsilver combo is working wonderfully well on the second use – more tomorrow.

Surprised how different the Razorock XX is the to Razorock XXX – so much more residue slickness on the XXX that makes the shave so much easier. Scent wise, I like them both, probably the XXX edges it (actually I prefer the Razorock X out of the three for scent). 3 passes and nearly BBS, nearly.

Cheers

Brian

Razor - Gem MM open comb - brass
blade - ER Corrux (1)
brush - Vie Long white horse
soap - Cella
post - witch hazel
a/s - Floid Vigoroso LE
balm - Floid.

Result - top end -

The first use of my most recent acquisition, the MicroMatic open comb. It was superb - a really close but comfortable shave. It's quite a small razor - in my hands anyway - but it has real presence and heft. I guess that's due to the brass. It's beautifully engineered. I had enjoyed using the 1912 and Schick so much I thought to pick one of these up as well. Recently I'm getting the best shaves I have ever had - all factors considered - and I have to attribute this to discovering vintage SE razors. My prep and lathering hasn't suddenly massively improved and my post regime has been consistent for quite a while - so it isn't that. I wonder about the effect of the single edge blades? They are obviously thicker and therefore less flexible than DE blades - does that make the difference? I don't know. This style of razor and blade do work for me - I do know that. The MM is also a beautiful object - not something I'd say about the 1912 or Schick - I fully understand that others will disagree with this statement. Ha ha. So - job done. I seem to without realising it joined in with SEptember? I only have two open combs so OCtober might be more of an issue. Another shave without artisan products - and someone very kindly sent a tube of Indian Old Spice cream - so that's my next one to use. Enjoy your shaves one and all - yours - I.

@Blademonkey - thanks again P. for doing such a good refurbishment job on the razor. It's a keeper.

@Wayne Pritchard - so you got the other one mate? ha ha.

ManlyStuff.ie handle

This Irish vendor doesn't get mentioned that much but they sell some interesting handles. I picked up one of the Fatty razors - purely for the handle. Tossed the head - for a standard thread stainless steel handle it's incredibly good value. I bought it to use with the very light Ikon Shavecraft heads I have - 101 and 103. I'd never previously imagined a razor that was actually hard work to hold up because of the weight of the combination. The handle is 180 grams on its own. Worth a look for others - if you haven't seen them. Glad you survived your man flu mate - it's a very serious condition. Not that our partners would ever acknowledge that - ha ha. yours - I.

Oh - thinking about it - it's a bit of a waste with the head - it's an EJ 89 clone. If anybody reading this wants it pm me and I'll send it to you gratis - UK only.

Razor: Charcoal Goods L2 SB Magnum
Blade: Gillette Platinum (2)
Brush: WW 'Tyrion'
Soap: Grooming Dept. Yuzu
I forgot how smooth and efficient the lvl 2 plate is from Charcoal Goods, in three passes with a tiny cleanup on the neck, I have a wonderful feeling BBS shave. I had to give Yuzu another try after feeling a slight tingle my last go. This time, it was perfectly smooth and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all during the shave. I don't really know what it was; maybe that fall is coming so early here in southern Italy and my allergies have been hammering me, I can't explain it.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage rebranded Simpson (Marshall Fields) witha nice old knot
1958 Executive/Gillette Spoiler NOS 1981
older Coates rose cream from a tube
Lucky Tiger AS and Face Tonic
AOS 'Sandalwood/Cedar' EdT

This is special brush to me in that it was my first very nice one, after a number of years being happy with others a bit less wonderful but still fine for my own use. Was found at an estate sale inna very ritzy neighborhood in Illinois and looked to be unused with the box. Heh, to show you the kind of area this sale was in, the town is named Golf. Yep, as in the sport.

Originally the handle was very light but over the years of exposure to other shaving crap it's turned a decent butterscotch. I will include a before and current pic.

Used it yesterday and today and since Feb 2010 I musta got this thing wet at least 1000 times and it's still working fine. Loses a hair maybe twice a year and that's it. Sheesh, enough already.

Tried a Spoiler blade from 1981 today, hoping they were like all the earlier year ones and yep, it shaves like a Spoiler thank God. Loaded one in a favorite 59 year old razor and had an excellent time.

BBS results,

Martin

Oh, I can't include a current pic for some reason.

Thank you Martin for a lovely detailed report.
Your brush in particular is one I envy.
Great set up. :)

Good evening @Digimonkey
Hope you are well mate.
I did indeed have the other one. :)
What a beautiful razor they are. My face is still as smooth as "Mercury" this evening :D
A fantastic little razor that I am so happy with.

PS. PM on its way.;)

image.jpg ~SOTD~ Sepember 13th Wednesday

Prep....Hot Shower ~ Olive Oil soap
Razor....Cobra Classic (on loan from @culcreuch)
Blade....Schick Proline P-20
Soap....Monsavon ( my new improved version)
Brush....Brad Sears ~ Gonzo ~ super soft silvertip
Scuttle....Giles Shaving Co
Post.....none needed
Scent....Chanel Allure

Another truly wonderful shave, the most creamy lather was knocked up and kept warm in my Giles Scuttle and applied with the softest of hair I have ever come across in a natral hair shaving brush.
The shave was a carbon copy of yesterday's , just outstanding , BBS without nicks or irritation, the Cobra was again a joy to use, I need one of these razors and Blademonkey said he would track on down come hell or high water! The soap with its added lanolin and coconut oil gave me the best post shave feel that I decided I did not need a PSB today, wonderful soap.
A light body spray of Chanel Allure and that's us clean shaven and smelling fabulous.

Wishing you all a a wonderful Wednesday.........:)

Yesterday I received my RazoRock 400 aluminum clone ordered from Italian Barber. It took only seven days to ship that brush from the States to my place in Germany and I had not to pay customs fees. Today I used it for the first time and have to say it is a great brush. The handle has a solid weight and the knot performes like a real silvertip. It is the best shaving brush with a synthetic knot I have bought so far.

Last night I had one easy, smooth shave!

I enjoy in PB Citrus Royale for the first time. Great soap in every way! And it goes so well with Bello Lime Bay Rum! Just fantastic combination.

My Ever Ready FW is one of my favorite razors. Never had a bad shave with it! And when I remeber that I buy just beacouse it was in a lot... :D
