Show us your boars!

I will look up my old listing & post the Premium knot specs later on.

Yes the 81XXX series uses a bleached bristle which is slightly softer, or the bleaching breaks in the bristle. Also I have found this bristle to be a better grade than the standard 80266 type bleached bristle which is why I requested this for the Premium models.

No.42
Handle: 74 mm x 39 mm x 39 mm
Knot (at base): 26 mm / Loft: 59 mm
No.43 & 45
Knot (at base): 25 mm / Loft: 59 mm
No.34. 35 & 37
Knot (at base): 24 mm / Loft: 55 mm

p.s. I am sure Omega could adjust the lofts.

Thanks for the info Paul.

This will likely be my last attempt to like the Omega Pros. I still find the handle too uncomfortable for bowl lathering, but since i switched to facelathering, i am going to give this a try. Brush never used, i left it in overnight bath and letting it dry today. It's a rebranded Omega, custom made for a local shop. It's 27x57mm and the knot is 1/4 bulb and 3/4 fan. I found the Proraso brush too stiff (and too long to break in), so i thought this one would be worse, being shorter. But, after the first bath, my initial impression just by touching it, is that *maybe* the loft bends easier. Also, *maybe* the loft is a bit less dense than Proraso's.

It also seems to have this sort of "bristle halo" on the periphery, with bristles coming out like spikes all around the knot, which i don't remember the Proraso having at such extend.

I don't have high hopes and i prefer the 80266/65 handles for ergonomy, but, since i had bought it, i may as well give it a chance, right?

EDIT: Of the 4 Omegas i have used so far, this is by far the most stinky one, despite being the one with the longest bath in shampoo+hair conditioner. These bristles came from one very stinky pig, if you catch my drift.

EDIT: I am just doing a quick lather, hoping to accelerate the de-stinking of the brush and this is peculiar. I don't remember the Proraso doing this. It seems that the brush splays and stays splayed at the upper half, while stays compact like a brick on the lower half.

I can't recall the Proraso staying splayed on its own like this. This will be interesting, although with a 5 brush rotation, this will take quite a while.

There might be hope with this one:

I am absolutely smitten with my recently acquired inexpensive black Omega 10290. This is billed as a 24 mm knot with a 48 mm loft on some vendor sites. Without measuring it, I suspect it is more like a 23mm knot; in any event this is a gem of a brush. I think this maybe the model that is referred to as the baby pro, but I maybe mistaken. The backbone, stiffness, scrub from this inexpensive little gem is just superb. It behaves like a smaller, stiffer, scrubbier Pro 49. Despite its size it lathers soaps just like the large Pro knots, holds enough lather for at least 3 passes, flow-through is great, and the lather remains stable. Sure it is small if you are coming from a large boar knot, the plastic handle whilst ergonomic can not match the excellent ergonomics of the Pro 49 plastic handle or Zenith's aluminium Pro handles, but it is still good, in fact, very good. This brush has character in abundance, you can not help but smile at its efficacy, how good it feels on the face and in the hand. If you like a stiff, scrubby, high performing boar that works straight out of the box, it is more than worth a go...

Spot the difference: ordered 24 mm and the unbleached measures a generous 24-25 mm but the bleached a measly 21-22 mm, Aaargh! this will ruin my experiment

Grr! I was looking forward to seeing the results of the great bleached vs unbleached brush test. I was planning to order a few things from TVB, I might go the same route as yourself and hopefully I will have some better luck myself!
