Another day another new to me French soap and this time it's one I've purchased and it didn't come cheap.
Okay it did, very cheap in fact, £2.20 for 125g.
Okay, okay I had to buy some other things to make the postage worthwhile and I'd never eaten Rillettes before so what the hell! As I always say: in for some soap in for some slow cooked shredded meat.
Okay, okay, okay, I've never said that before in my life but you get the idea.
Well I'm very impressed with the soap and the Rillettes are delicious so money well spent, a face well shaved and a palate delighted.
Talking of money well spent, the Epsilon ASL is very nice indeed, thanks for the tip @Blackmass
Very entertaining write-up Kevin. Did you go for the goose or pork rillettes first up?

It was nice to use something different today after 3 weeks of using the same gear
Prep: Shower Molton Brown Cypress & Sea Fennel shower gel
EAD pre have
Brush: Yaqi 28mm
Soap: Cattie's Bubbles Waterlyptus
Razor: Gillette Tech
Blade: Personna Red 2
Bowl: Timeless Travel
Balm: L'Oreal Hydra Sensitive
Edt: Paco Rabanne Invictus Aqua (2016)
Had a very nice shave with the very light Gillette Tech

Evening shave

Lucky Tiger Face Scrub
Wholly Kaw Monaco Royale
Chubby 2 Best Badger
Ever-Ready Streamline
Gem Blue Star (3)
OSP Neroli Aftershave Tonic

It's still very much a learning curve for me with the Streamline, particularly with regards to angles on the tricky areas. But I'm enjoying the concentration required, and I'm getting very close shaves with not a touch of irritation. So I must be doing something right. My first use of a Wholly Kaw soap and I'm impressed. A rich, thick, creamy lather with more than enough slickness to boot. So all-in-all, a rather enjoyable half an hour.

Thur 16th Aug
Vulfix 404 mixed
Faena Sandalwood
Mongoose B3
Feather Pro [ 3 ]
Pitralon Classic A/S Lotion

Quite a nice Shave today, it would seem that the blade has calmed down- so very smooth and comfortable. Got an excellent lather from the Faena whipped very easily with the 404, which I think is a rather overlooked brush. A nice close all round finish.

Pre-shave: Warm shower face wash, Wright's Cold Tar Soap, followed by Proraso (White) Sensitive Skin Green Tea Pre And Post Shave Cream.
Cream: Musgo Real Lavender.
Brush: Muhle Purist, Black Silvertip Fibre Shaving Brush.
Bowl: Aesop.
Razor: Blackland Dart.
Blade: Astra SP (Green) (Day 1).
Post: Cold water splash and Myrsol Baslamic Water, followed by Body Shop Aloe Vera Gel, finished off with Musgo Real No.4 Lavender Cologne.

A very smooth shave today; I don't know if that was down to the Proraso White Pre-shave Cream or the Astra SP blade. The Astra felt great in the Dart - notably smoother than the Wilkinson Sword (yesterday) and the KAI SS (Monday), so my money is on the Astra :).

A three pass shave: WTG, XTG and ATG with no issues to report and a BBS - / DFS + finish. Gentle tingle when I applied the Myrsol.

I think the Dart has the makings of a classic razor, with the right blade. As ever YMMV.

All the best,

Chris

Wholly Kaw Fougére Parfait*
OSP Fougère splash*

*Samples courtesy of @Boybunny and @Boru62 Thanks gents.

Had issues with my lather, too much water in the brush (I was trying something different) and had to start again. Thankfully Paul had sent a large sample. Second attempt was better but it was lacking on the protection front.
I found the scent strength lacking TBH. It's supposed to be based on Brut but I haven't smelt it in decades so can't say whether it's close or not. The scent was nice enough but I prefer something more classy.

Post shave was excellent, so every cloud.

Finished off with the OSP Fougère splash from Kevin. It's not for me at all. Way too much Clove for my liking.

Not a bad shave though with good results.

The weekend is nearly here. Who needs a drink?!

Tatara Masamune
Ladas (#1)
OSP

First use of the Tatara with thanks to the generous pass-around. I couldn't have done things more incorrectly. I bathed beforehand, didn't quite wet my face enough before trying to lather up, didn't have quite a damp enough brush and subsequently the lather was beyond sub-par. Yet somehow, still something of a mystery to me, I had an impeccable shave. One pass and a couple of minor touch-ups and I had a belter of a shave. I'm still smooth this morning.
This definitely warrants attempt two tomorrow with a, hopefully, more successful lather.
I love the presentation and build quality. Both are fantastic and it slots together so neatly. Weight is great for me and blade feel is a little low but I cannot fault the efficiency of this. If all good continues I could happily grab one and use only this herein.

Prep ~ Shower, D.R. Harris Almond Oil Soap
Razor ~ Blackland ~ Sabre L2
Blade ~ Gem Stainless
Soap ~ London Oatcake Shaving Soap - Sample
Brush ~ Omega 011842 Boar
Post ~ Thayers
Scent ~ Guerlain ~ Jicky edp

I received a sample of London Oatcake Shaving Soap from a fellow member, thanks S. So I thought I would give it a try this morning. The first scent I noticed before lathering was nutmeg but as was I lathering I was also getting other spices as well as creamy oatmeal and some other stuff I couldn't put my finger on but it was a very pleasant scent.
It lathered with ease and produced a good stable creamy lather, good stuff and did I mention its got tallow in it as well, I've placed my order. :)
The Shave was a good one, clean shaven and a very good post shave feel from the soap.

Wishing you all a fabulous Friday.....P.

Very interesting Chris.

I too found an Astra SP to be smoother in the Dart than an old English made Wilkinson Sword blade.
Still a sharp and efficient combo but more refined.
