SOTD 17th Apr.jpg
Pre Shave: Hot Shower + Bulldog face wash
Razor: iKon 101
Blade: NOS Wilkinson Sword Made in England (#2)
Brush: Semogue 2000
Soap: Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge.
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Humphreys Witch Hazel
AS: Bulldog balm

Very smooth shave but I think the Semogue needs some breaking in. I washed it with shampoo and lathered with it on Sunday, but today was a bit of a let down. Hopefully it just needs some breaking in.

Razor - Mergress (2)
blade - Polsilver SI (1)
brush - Chubby 1 best
soap - M&T Dark Limes
post - witch hazel
a/s - Wickham Citrus Musk
balm - La Toja Neutro Care alcohol free.

Result - excellent. An experiment of sorts.

I'm aware of the fact that I have been a bit of a 'dewy eyed teenager,' upon discovering the Rockwell 6C. It's my new favourite thing. Thought it might be interesting to go back to my reference adjustable de - also in the category are the Slim Aristocrat and Parker Variant - the Mergress - to see how they compare. I'm sure that the vast majority of you know what a Mergress is - in case you don't - it's a modified standard Merkur Progress razor - be that long or short handled - the adjustment knob at the bottom is changed to a metal one - dramatically improving the balance of the razor for me. Also it is re-calibrated - it lands on 1 every time you screw it shut. An impressive razor - quite rare - I consider myself fortunate to own one. This isn't supposed to be an objective test - I'll just go for something empirical. I'll use the same blade and try for the same number of uses - 6. The software will change but I will only use products that I know work well for me. Like the M&T Dark Limes - possibly as good as a non-tallow soap formulation gets for me. I find all of the scents to be top-end. Over the last week or so - I have realised just how many citrus soaps I own. Must like them? A healthy splash of the Wickham Citrus Musk - it was only going to be - I have an early run of it - there is no flow restriction cap in the bottle. This has changed I believe. A spot of La Toja balm. Job done - first impressions - bbs but i think there is much more blade feel from the Mergress. We'll see how it goes. Yours - one and all - enjoy your shaves - I.

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Brush:- RazoRock Plissoft Synth. 24/57mm knot
Soap/Cream:- La Toja (3 shave sticks grated into a 150ml plastic tub)
Razor/Blade:- Merkur 34C / Gillette Nacet #7
Post-shave:- Thayers Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil / Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic
Fragrance:- Hugo Boss (Original)

Morning shave

Olive Oil Soap
Alvarez Gomez Barberia Cream
Omega 10098 Boar
Little Wren Pottery
Gillette Tech
Polsilver SI (2)
OSP Lemon and Cedarwood Aftershave Tonic
Alvarez Gomez Barberia EDC

We are promised 23 degrees today in London so the perfect opportunity to break out the Alvarez Gomez. This cream really is so good.

No photo today as it's exactly the same set up as Monday.

Brush: Omega S10083
Soap: Meißner Tremonia Wild Woods
Razor: Vigshaving combination head (open comb side) on RazoRock bamboo SS handle
Blade: Bolzano Superinox (3)

I'm getting to like this combination. I'm learning to handle the open comb (I had a previously-unreported tendency to 'poke' myself with the comb when I first started using it), and the Bolzano which didn't inspire huge confidence on day one has turned out quietly competent.

Happy shaving.
