SOTD SATURDAY 24th OCT to FRIDAY 30th OCT 2015

This afternoons shave:
NSS Signature Moroccan Sands
Custom 24mm Whipped Dog Synthetic
iKon DLC SB on Custom stainless handle
Lord Super Chrome [1]
Proraso Green AS
Diesel OTB

What a great shave! NSS used for the first time in ages - great lather as always. I very nearly chucked the blade as it felt a little tuggy! Persevered though and got the closest first pass ever. 2nd pass cleaned everything up. Go easy with the iKon and a super close shave results.
Zero sting from the AS.
Superb!

Jagger DE3D, Lab Blue
Hand-carved Beech 2-band Finest
LEA Shaving Cream
Aqua Velva
Coconut Oil

Enjoyed the cooling nature of the menthol in the AQ but not sold on the scent. Still, it'll get used up and it was on my 'to try' list. Big thanks to Oomer who sent me the LEA cream as a freebie with the AQ I bought from him. The LEA is damn good cream! :D

Meissner Tremonia lavender shaving soap
Semogue 1305
Progress on 2.5
Lion / Diamond Pro Super
Derma v10 balm

Interesting blades, do tell.
The blades were £9.90 for 100 plus reasonable postage within the UK. I found them not particularly sharp or smooth in my US Aristocrat and Stahly but much better in my Progress.
The Diamond Pro Super blade on its second shave felt sharper and smoother than the Lion on its first. They aren't going to top Sputniks or lab blues but they are a decent enough blade if you fancy trying something unusual.
If you pm me your address again I'll get a few out to you in the post.

As promised yesterday I did a retro shave today:

Crown King Switchback Rubberset 400 tribute
1950s Rolls Razor
1930s Dubarry Silkashave soap

At least I did a WTG pass with the Rolls and finished the shave with my Hoffritz. I like the Rolls but I'm only really confident using it with the grain.

The Silkashave soap has me struggling for superlatives. It lathers very easy and provides lots of protection and glide.

Lovely.

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso - Sandalwood
Soap: OSP - Bay Rum
Bowl: Greek Pottery
Brush: Whipped Dog 24mm synthetic
Razor: ATT R1 + Kronos handle
Blade: Personna Platinum
After: WH, Barbershop Bay Rum AS, Sandalwood Skin Food

First use of The Obsessive Soap Perfectionist's Bay Rum soap and I can't fault it in any way. I thought it might have had a stronger scent but what's there is just right. No skin reaction to the soap which I think is more important. I find some other Bay Rum soaps which are more highly scented can make my skin turn a little red.
Only used this WD brush a few times. It's definitely got more backbone than my Plisson brush (which has almost none) and I can see it as being a great all-rounder brush. I still like my Muhle 23mm Kosmo synthetic brush which I think has a tad less backbone but softer experience. They just perform differently.

Have a great Sunday, folks.

Omega 11137
Tabac
ER Streamline
Gem S/S [ 7 ]
Alum Rub / La Toja A/S

7 Days on Streamline with one blade , even on the last day produced a more than acceptable shave, with no real aggravation or tugging. Must qualify as my Desert Island Razor !!

This brush really is suited to face lathering, as I could feel it working up the lather on the skin , is this is what the brush gurus refer to as the exfoliating action , which does not to me feel apparent when bowl lathering.

Mastro Livi Inox "Grifone", 9/8 Full Hollow, Livi Snake Point

The straight razor was superb, but I cannot say the same for the soap. It is now quite a long time this Meißner Tremonia soap is in my rotation and - in my opinion - it does not provide enough cushion and slickness for a straight razor. After two disappointing passes, I had to take the first soap I had at hand - and it happened to be Cella - and do the third pass with that. On the good side, I have to tell I love Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve aftershave, an absolutely amazing fragrance and very very pleasing to smell with an impressive persistence and finish. As for my Mastro Livi "Grifone", well, I guess I said quite a lot about this superlative straight razor, just another proof this magnificent Italian craftsman and artist makes impeccable and excellent shavers. Super smooth and sharp, it shaves like a caressing and velvety breeze. Simply amazing!
