Pre shave: Warm shower and L'Oreal face wash
Razor: Razorock Mamba
Blade: Bolzano (#1)
Soap: Truefitt & Hill No.10 cream
Brush: Vie Long horse
Post shave: Alum block, cold water splash and Thayer's Cucumber witch hazel
AS: Nivea 2 phase

A smooth and decent shave with one of my favourite blades, but not as close as with a Polsilver Si or a Kai in the Mamba, or it could just be my Monday morning lackadaisicalness.

I don't like to shave on consecutive days but I had to give the NO a go.

The scent from the tub is like classy cologne. I can pick out the tea and some bergamont but not much else.
Well once I started to lather it up the scent changed quite dramatically. Within seconds I knew what it reminded me of....Dior Fahrenheit! I do own a bottle so I checked and yes it's definitely in the same ballpark. TBH I didn't get any vanilla or strawberry.

Performance was great too.

18th DE shave

Prep: Warm water rinse, BBA Face Wash then Proraso Pre Shave cream Eucalyptus and Menthol
Soap: Proraso Red Sandalwood and Shea Butter
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Feather Hi-stainless (2)
Post: Cold rinse, Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber, then Floid Aftershave balm

After last nights shave I chose to keep my prep routine the same. So no change there.

As mentioned previously, I really like Proraso soaps so I went with the Sandalwood and Shea butter. I've used this recently and liked the mild scent along with the nice glide it gives the razor.

Sticking with the Feather blade I had another great shave. Really straightforward with no knicks or weepers. WTG and ATG followed by touch ups and I was done.

A quick all over lather with the leftovers. Quick clean up. Then a cold rinse and splash with Thayers followed by Floid balm.

Smooth and happy. Ready to go back to work tomorrow after an extra long weekend off.

I'm counting down the days until the Pass Around box has to move on. I'm really going to miss it, but it's been great. The products in it really give you food for thought.

Hope you all had a great day and have a great day tomorrow.

Pre-shave: Warm shower face wash Wright's Cold Tar Soap and cold water splash.
Sosp: The Gentleman's Groom Room Essence of Scotland Sweet Gale Traditional Shaving Soap .
Brush: Simpsons Duke 2 Pure Badger.
Bowl: Aesop.
Razor: Muhle R41.
Blade: Astra SP (Day 1)
Post: Cold water splash and OSP Grapefruit and Menthol splash.

First shave today since a one pass shave on Saturday - reasonable amount of stuble to get through. What a shave, BBS in 2 passes - a beautiful smooth and efficient shave - the R41 with a decent blade is amazing, as ever, I appreciate that YMMV.

It has been a while since I have used that Essence of Scotland Sweet Gale Traditional Shaving Soap; lovely scent, protection and glide - the scent when you open the lid is amazing, it feels as if the tub is packed full of goodness!

All the best,

Chris

17th DE shave

4bec3acaf3fb7f1b64201d62e6e6ca63.jpg

Prep: Warm water rinse, BBA Face Wash then Proraso Pre Shave cream Eucalyptus and Menthol
Soap: The Gentleman's Groom Room Highland Bothy
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Feather Hi-stainless (1)
Post: Cold rinse, Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber, then Proraso aftershave balm Sensitive

I dipped into the Newbie Pass Around box again as I'm conscious I only have one week left with it. It's been great so far and has given me lots to think about.

I chose the BBA face wash, Proraso pre shave, Gentleman's Groom Room soap and Feather blade from the box.

After going through my usual prep with face wash and pre shave cream, I bloomed the soap for 10 seconds (as recommended on TGGR's website) then started to lather. It came up in a matter of seconds before it started spilling over everywhere. The scent was spot on with the distinct smell from an old building in the hills. The musky but warm smell genuinely took me back to the many Munros I've found myself at the top of in Scotland. The days of camping and the firewood smell. Absolutely perfect.

After lathering I decided to go with 2 passes - WTG and ATG. I've tried various blades in the last 3 weeks, but have finally discovered the blade that is perfect for my 34c and skin. I was actually terrified of the Feather blade the 1st time I used it, but I think giving the razor and blade the respect they deserve has helped hone my technique. The slickness of the lather along with the blade had me finished the 1st Pass in what felt like seconds.

The 2nd lather again filled the senses with that Scottish wilderness. Going ATG the blade glided with no problems. I ran a finger over a cheek and it just hit me. The smoothest I think it has been....ever. Even pressing my finger into the skin I couldn't feel anything. No stubble, no roughness, just smooth. This was at the start of my 2nd pass and I was turning into a saddo because I was that excited! ‍♂️

I finished up with only one or two touch up areas and as I rinsed off my entire face was smoother than it's been, as far as I can remember.

A splash with the Thayers and rub of Proraso balm and I was done.

I've read other threads and on occasion have thought “really?” (in a sarcastic tone) when I don't understand the excitement others experience.

Tonight I totally understand! Everything just clicked. I think I'm happy with my current technique, though I know I've still a lot to improve. I'm happy with Feather blades. I'm happy with my pre and post techniques, though there are so many different products I want to try! I'm just happy! [emoji51]

Thanks to everyone who has helped me (including all the previous posters who probably have long moved on but posts I have read) but today's shave was why I want to be a wet shaver!

Oh, and by the way, The Gentleman's Groom Room Highland Bothy soap is well worth a try. I absolutely loved it!

Here's to many more shaves like this one!

Thanks everyone. Have a great night. [emoji482]

Great shave report, long may your shaving be happy +1 on the Highland Bothy soap.

RSC Facial Scrub and Pears Glycerine Soap
LEA Shave Stick (Tallow)
Simpson Duke 1 in Pure Badger
PAA Bakelite Slant with an Astra SP Blade
Witch Hazel
Aloe Vera Gel
Nivea 2 Phase AS

We never stop learning or re-learning! One of the primary rules of wet shaving is No Pressure. Previous shaves with this razor have been good.....but there was usually a little irritation. I went to the PAA site and read the instructions to be reminded that just because a razor is very light...it doesn't mean you can apply more pressure. This morning I used it as if it was my Claymore loaded with a Feather SuperPro. The results were outstanding!

3 Passes for a lovely BBS finish and NO irritation:)

~SOTD~

Prep ~ D.R Harris Almond Oil soap, Luke warm shower
Razor ~ Colonial Razors General in brass
Blade ~ Feather Pro Super
Soap ~ Klar Kabinett
Brush ~ Zenith 28mm Manchurian Badger
Post ~ Thayers Rose Petal
Scent ~ Mancera - Roses Vanille

I like Klar soaps, I love Klar Kabinett. So this is a real treat for me to indulge myself in this guilty pleasure. It is out of production and therefore only a finite amount of this wonderful soap left to be had as samples but at a price but it's worth it. I saw @TomG had his Klar Kabinett in a ceramic pot befitting to a soap so great and felt great shame that mine is only in an aluminium screw top container, Tom knows how to house such a soap and has put me to shame, I will rectify this situation ASAP :)
My razor for today was the ever dependable General and when fitted out with a Feather Pro Super is a delight to use, this razor and blade combo is outstanding.
The zenith Manchurian Badger is a brush that can rip up any hard soap like a boar yet be as soft as any Silvertip should be and with a 28mm knot there is more than enough badger on your face to satisfy any man.
My shave with the General was smooth and very efficient only needing a couple of passes to acheve perfection.
To keep the Rose Scent going I chose Mancera Roses Vanille as my scent of today and very nice it is too.

Wishing you all a splendid day.

Paul.
