Standard razor - a revelation

Picked one of these up from a member on here. Will have a shave today. Looking forward to trying it out!
It is ridiculously light! Think it will become my travel razor, providing I can get a long with it.

Although I am unsure how well the black anodising will fare...

Have used one for a week now and have changed my views on it in the last week, I'd say I'd be surprised if you didn't get to like it having got used to the lightness. I can see that it would serve as an daily use razor, not just for travel but do think it's a treat to have a choice of razors just to add a bit of interest so won't be getting rid of any any time soon but will be on the lookout for another Standard.

Agreed, the black anodising is an unknown to most of us here but they have been about for a couple of years and I haven't seen adverse reports myself. If given the choice at the next Massdrop I'd go for a grey one... it might be even less prone to showing marks??

Is that a recent update to the Standard site in the USA ? And am I right in thinking they were out of stock for while? Perhaps that might that suggest that the Mass Drop offer will be reinstated at some, not too distant, point? There are 360 odd requests for it's reintroduction on the Mass Drop site so presumably it will qualify given the apparent min. of 200.

By my (unreliable) calculation the current Standard preorder figure of 55 USD equates to £38.10 (PayPal's conversion) + £8.74 shipping and you'd have to reckon on VAT @ £9.36 + the Royal Mail £8 collection charge. This adds up to £64.20 as opposed to Gallant and Klein's £60 plus Pand P. As opposed to the original Massdrop figure of £36 albeit, fortunately, with no VAT or £8 charge applied to (most or all) past deliveries for some, fortunate, reason. With no VAT or collection charge on the preorder offer from Standard you'd get it for £46.84.

Your calculations are correct. Except you left out the 10% off for TSR members with coupon: TSR2014 :)

They had been out of stock for a while indeed and announced preorders on their mailing list this morning. I thought I'd point out an additional source of Standard razors. I didn't say that this a great deal. Personally I'd like to have a spare (without an additional stand) and will wait for Massdrop/ebay/BST. Btw: it is no longer my sole favourite razor. It shares that spot with my new Schick adjustable and the Digress. They are all brilliant, yet so different.

I saw that as well :) As you know, I have one, so I'm not in a hurry. I'm debating if I really need a second one. I don't get the impression it will break anytime soon and I'll try not to lose it.
 
No, you're not too likely to be mugged or the subject of housebreaking in order to relieve you of it....but given the level of affection received here you never know :)
 
I bought the one on BST, wanted a different colour :)
I wasn't convinced initially, its too light really for me but it just shaves so well without shouting about it.
I'm a noob so not really playing around with blades much but i think a slightly aggressive (?) blade will go well

Interesting that, I`ve been meaning to pick one of these up for a while.
As soon as I move some of my other stuff on this is on my buy list - shame they always listed in the states.
 
The answer you're looking for, Alex, is a resounding YES. If "I" have to have the black (see yesterday's BST) and a Raw one, then you certainly do.

And I ask how many, and what colours, has Andreas ordered?

I seem to be considered number 21 in the list...what's your number then Andreas? A good bit before me I trust?
