Standard razor - a revelation

It just goes to show YMMV, cos, putting it bluntly, I thought it was sh|te!
Not a patch on my Weber, Progress, 37c. I also prefer to shave with my Tech, DE89, NLC and Old.
Odd eh!
(Oh and the mongoose is a above the STD too!)
My Digress is a keeper, my 37c might go to BST. I still love my Schick injectors. For a brief moment I thought the Standard was the end of of my RAD, but I'm now waiting for a Schick adjustable to be delivered :). The Mongoose is on my wishlist. Didn't I get into this to save money? Errr. no.. I wanted a better shave... TBC...

Don't know if you can see what I can see in the link (I was logged into my Massdrop account) but it says that 293 have requested another Massdrop deal on the Standard.

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/standard-razor-black-on-black-set

I don't think I'd go for another one as clearly I can't have fallen in love with it at the time....and, like Rowley, do have great fondness for my Weber, Progress, R41 etc etc and don't think I could kindle a relationship with the Standard......BUT, I SHOULD have given it longer though.

I'll sign off shortly as it time to spend some time with the Weber......

This razor is finally starting to annoy me. I can't use it to try new blades and figure out if they are good or not. This razor thinks all blades are created equal. Even the dismal Derby seems acceptable. I tried a new blade (Perma-Sharp Super) in the Standard today and it was fantastic, but I will have to transfer it to another razor to be sure (I only have a single blade of the Perma-Sharp). I like trying different blades. And razors. The Standard razor takes the fun out of this.
Then again.... I need to buy another Standard razor in case mine gets lost, stolen or breaks.

Good idea. I've got 2 of each colour, but I'm keeping one pair unused as reserves, or perhaps for my grandsons.

Sorry Stan if your reading this, but after hacking my face with my feather kamisori 5 days ago, felt it was time to shave off the beard that had grown. Kamisori? No, still got a great big cut thats not quite better, so the standard it was.

Lord blade, WTG/ATG and a couple of touch ups and BBS with no dramas, what a cracking razor, probably one of the best out of the many i have.

No worries, RT. My trauma counsellor says that I may only need three sessions a week soon, which is great and I have no regrets.

NO REGRETS.

ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS AT ALL, DO YOU HEAR ME ? !!!!!!

Breathe in. Hold. Breath out. Say 'Ommmmm'. Repeat. That sometimes helps.
I had a shave with my Digress the other day. Would I still like it? 'Cause I did. And a Schick adjustable is waiting for me at the Post Office. The Standard is (maybe) (for now) my best razor, but it is nowhere near the most exciting.

That's a great injector. Like a DE razor, the blades aren't all the same and it takes trying some to get the right fit for the best shave. If you wanna screw with it I mean, otherwise forget what I typed. You can get a good, but not great shave with most blades if that's what you're after. Also like a DE, even the best razor can't overcome a wrong blade.

Sorry for the slight thread derailment,

Martin

Indeed so. Can't see me with a straight just yet...and the R41 offers a degree of interest. Probably more so after a drink.

No, we're OK for now but really pleased you got a Standard and hope the Massdrop is resurrected.

Thanks.

I've got a little bit of prior experience. I have a Schick B2, C1, C2, E3, J3, K1 and N3 so far and a couple of hundred blades in the drawer and some more NOS Schick blades (and the adjustable) on the way. Now I only need a Personna Floating Head Injector at a good price and I'll be done

Kevin,

You can try mine for a week or two if you want? Send me a pm :)

No desire to resurrect this to any degree but just a quick line to say I've been sent a Standard loaner by a kind fellow member. I can see why it's found favour following a fine shave with it + a new Gillette Yellow. It was, to me, deceptive but the fact is I had a close, relaxed, uneventful and enjoyable shave with it and will continue with it for several days before returning it including giving it a spin with a new Feather. Thanks Alex.

By way of comparison, this morning, I used the Yellow with my R89 and it has to be said that was also mild....but was close and was comfortable but heavier in the hand, of course.

With the benefit of hindsight I'd have kept it...I'm very pleased to have been given the opportunity to use it and can readily see why you fellas have reported back as you have but, unless I see one somewhere going for a song, I'll stick with what I have having had the benefit of knowing what you've all been on about :)

Thanks all.

Standard razor is an American razor made from Aluminium, lightweight but gives a great shave and is highly regarded by many in the shaving community. 3 options to buy,
Massdrop (when available), Galant & Klein and private sale on BST (Again if available)
