Tattoo's

I think you're being a just wee bit harsh there, Rob. Not having a go either and not disputing that you are entitled to your opinion but then again I'm glad stronger opinions can be read on this forum with little fall out and especially without the heavy handed, excessive moderation of a certain large site that I will leave unnamed.

Graeme, I was not being judgemental about having a tattoo - I have one myself, but that's besides the point. What I was trying to get at is that, if you turn up at an interview for a job where you have never met the interviewer and they have never met you - there is an implied element of trust. Bear in mind that for everyone who is successful in getting the job, all the other applicants will lose out - therefore, if you have been less than candid you have not only wasted your own time but also denied some other person of a good opportunity.

Well rob I don't really see how tattoos are something you should need to or want to tell a employer about just in case he sees them later. Say I have a Johnson like a baby's arm should I tell them that at the interview incase they see it in the toilet later on and don't want to employ me anymore cause of it.

The place I had the interview for had a dress code, this dress code was shown to me after I started not before. I had no thought what so ever about my Tattoo's. Really they should of shown the dress code to people before they interview them if they feel that strongly about tattoo's. I never have and never would cover up my tattoos for any purpose, they are part of me.

I left a job in another school where I was employee'd as a caretaker and special needs teaching assistant for that position. The job was a good one, but I wanted to work at being a teaching assistant full time. Please don't think I'm bitter about it, I'm seriously not, but they came under the same educational authority where one accepted it the others didn't. I wouldn't throw away one job for another on the back of trying to deceive when it's obvious I would be "found out" on my first day.

Trust works both ways Rob, I got that job based on experience, the evidence I showed them, working with their children for 1/2 hour and references provided. I trusted them by leaving my previous job to go there. But like I have said life goes on you live and learn and it all works out in the end. I did also find out after that they have a big staff turnover and basically if your face doesn't fit key staff members see to it that you don't last long.

If only they had told me first the other people who were "better" than me for not having tattoo's could of had the job !

Hi NS - I may have got things wrong because I was basing my comments on something you said in an earlier post about 'not being asked' at the interview which I took to mean that your tattoos were not on display. Certainly for an employer to fail to notify you of a dress code at the interview is totally wrong so maybe you are better off by leaving.

As I said, I have nothing against tattoos and was not being judgemental - good luck in finding a position that you enjoy.

Cheers Rob, I won't be looking for a job anytime soon. SWMBO and I decided a while ago things work well for us at the moment with me at home. I'm getting a dab hand in the kitchen too !!!

Indeed I was better off out of that job, I was only there a few months and it wasn't a happy time.

Got 4 tattoos on arms when i was 18,now got them covered by 2 full sleeves.

Have 1 in memory of my daughter on my neck 2 on my back and 1 on the back of my leg.

And by the way i am a very highly paid engineer in the offshore industry go to meetings at Statoil HQ in Stavanger and Bergen and do not feel the need to cover them up i don't see the need to as having tattoos does not affect the way i do my job.

You're so right Hunny; ban all apostrophe misusers, I say! Arf, arf.
On the subject of tattoos, I'm not a fan and don't have any myself. And when I think of what I seriously toyed with the idea of having tattooed on my bum at Glastonbury 1984 - well, good thing too!
The problem with tattoos is IMHO that they portray a certain 'style'. My daughter has a tattoo on her upper arm - a rose with her first two children's names (see that lovely apostrophe placing!!!). When she got married (yes, some time later) - a tattoo with a wedding dress....well, it doesn't go, does it? As I say to my two oldest grandsons when the subject ever comes up; 'There aren't many places where the lack of tattoos is a disadvantage; but there are many places where having tattoos is a disadvantage.'
As for Vinnie!!!!! I had to Google that, and now I really really wish I hadn't. I've just about picked my jaw up off the desk.
But each to their own; hell, I've got bits of silver stuck through my ears right now.:icon_rolleyes:

I think more commonly people see the possesives on most words and apply to "its". It's really annoying as when I read it as I automatically read it as "it is" so I see things like "I love this razor's, it's[sic] plating is really good". I just read it as "it is plating is really good" and it annoys me. I know I'm not perfect though and get things wrong. If I was perfect I'd be conceited.
If I were to admit something I would confess to getting subjunctives wrong from time to time.

It's not a difficult thing to master though is it?

Dear Heinymunster,

You're point is well taken, and i like how your good at 'splaining' stuff. I'm with you......sometimes those kinda mistakes make me wanna lose the hounds on the poster.

Dodgy

I never even knew about 'it's' and its' until quite late in life. In fact, every time I write 'Its' I feel a combination of pride that I've got it right, and certainty that the reader probably thinks I've got it wrong.

What's cookin Toots,

So, are you inviting us to guess? Ok..........let's see now.......1984. That would make you around 19 years old if I'm not mistaken.

Well, for some reason I come up with Lorne Green! How'd I do?

What's cookin Toots,

It's a wild guess I know, but is the answer Lorne Green?
