Just seen this Next Brass Batch Ordered (Approx. 5 weeks from 4/14/17).
More Generals on the way.
Made in China!!!!!??? I thought these were made in Holland?
Get wise !!! everything is made in China, that's why we must learn to get along, we have become dependant on big business and they need profit ... just imagine a world without batteries !!!!
Where do you think they are made ???
I have not so much issue with that as with the price since it's made in China. The word "schlonged" comes to mind.
That is CAPITALISM my friend, I think much better that the alternatives.
At least we can say "NO" and vote with our money, and not buy.
My brass General arrived today, thankfully it sailed past customs, so no charge. It's a well made hefty razor, the only thing I wished was better finished is the top plate that came with lines all along the width of the plate. I gave it a few turns on the buffer wheel and it came out perfect.
I'm still very smitten with my brass General, and I reckon it's one of the best AC SEs I've got. It shaves so well that I'm guilty of neglecting its aluminium brother, my Hawk, Claymore, Rocnel and various Mongoose types. I rate it as perhaps the best of the current crop of AC razors. This is curious, as I've tended to grow to like aluminium models better than the heavy stainless ones, but this bucks the trend.
It is a great razor, all the better for being made from brass, a wonderful material for a razor, the General and the brass Hone have the same hold on me.....it must be the brass!
Any ideas where I can get a reasonably priced, nicer looking than the original brass handle for the general?
Probably not reasonably priced after import robbery but some fine work..
I see from the Colonial website and their email update that they have a limited stock of brass Generals for sale at $99.99, and, once these are gone, production of that razor model will be discontinued.
I have no idea how many of these were made, but it seems like a good enough reason to hang on to one if you have it. It's still a pity that they weren't at least name-stamped or engraved a la Hone, but there we go.
I do intend to hold on to mine, not because of any possible appreciation, but it's such a great shaver, it can never be replaced. I don't know why they are discontinuing it as it's so popular and the impending SS one will be more expensive.
First go with an SE, and first with the brass General, what a great razor, the Titan mild I used tugged a bit in the Feather ac but in the General it was smooth, paired with Razorock Tuscan Oud, lovely scent that.
Only spotted the razor via the forums, saw they were looking to discontinue, took a punt, marked up low so no duty to pay as I always get hit, result.
Here on a Charcoal goods Maze.
Needless to say that handle looks incredible.
I'm wondering why they are stopping the production of a razor as successful as this.
all enthusiasts should get one while stocks last.
The brass General is my desert island SE.
Because their planning to release a Stainless Steel Colonial General hopefully this year
They're also talking about a Colonial DE, and no doubt something in the GEM department will come up in due course.
@Benz3ne, its quality work that handle, shame I cant get the Charcoal Goods head to go on it. The General suits though
The SS will presumably be more expensive than the brass. Brass has heft and so does SS so having a choice I would still opt for the brass, but of-course, YMMV.
