UK meteorology

Weekend forecast video from Liam Dutton. This coming few days should see a more zonal jet, with periods of rain moving through coparatively quickly, as opposed to the meriodional jet of recent weeks which has seen the heatwave (while we were under a longwave ridge), and this week's wet weather, during which we've been under a trough.

Dutton's week ahead forecast:

Further ahead, model discussion suggests that the south will see quite an amount of warm, sunny conditions, with the north possibly also improving after the main part of next week. Troughing to our north-east, which has tended to tile the jet on a north-west to south-east axis will move to the north-west, initiating a slightly more south-west to north-east jet axis., with a broad area of higher pressure from the Azores across to the Iberian Penninsula. These factors, if they resolve as expected, will tend to deflect low pressure to the north-west, with less of the country being subject to the cooler airmass they contain.
