Uploading pictures

I am sure I am not the first but........
I have uploaded pics using urls from sites like photobucket etc but i am SURE hat on a couple of occasions I have managed to upload a picture to a thread direct from my computer.

Have I missed something here , doing it wrong or do I have to go through 3rd party site which is a pain in the shave den.

I've tried to use the upload a file button but get the message that the file is too large.
I tried unsuccessfully to use some photo thingy on the web but gave up as i'm completely useless at all this modern malarkey & it did my head in.
I don't understand how I was able to add full-size pictures that i'd copied from when I purchased stuff on here but am unable to add my own.
Is there really no easy way ?

I think https://imgbb.com/ is brilliant photo hosting service for forums like this.

You can upload multiple images at once and copy the code (with the links) organized for a thumbnail gallery. Paste it here and you get a tidy forum post that won't annoy ppl.

I imagine the photos were already resized to less than 1mb when you borrowed them.

I use an image resizer app on any photo taken or stored on my phone, and upload directly to here. Couldnt be easier.

Its called photo and picture resizer. Theres loads of them. With this one, you choose the picture you want from your gallery and just choose "re-size" and click say 75% to resize to a specific size

Easy way is to send the photo to yourself using your phone by mail. It will ask you to choose what size you want to send it as. Select the lowest or the one up from that and it should be ok. Then use that version to post.

Good idea. I usually just spend ages cropping a bit at a time and re posting until it accepts the image. Doh

I use an app called ‘Photo Compress' to get my photos under the site's 1MB limit. The icon for the app is a vice about to crush a photo !

What I don't get though is why sometimes an uploaded photo shows up sideways in my post on my work computer browser (rubbish IE) when it shows the right way up on my phone.

One way of ensuring that the size is low enough is to take the shot from a distance and then digitally zoom in to get the picture to fill the frame and in doing so you will be reduceing the number of pixels in the finnished picture. Simples! :) P.

I am not sure of the technical term but your phone has a built in levelling thing that turns the picture the right way when you turn the phone. This code is remembered when you display it on the computer but the website cannot handle it and if you have taken it portrait on the phone it will come out sideways. An easy fix is to rotate it on the computer then rotate it back and you will find it sorts the problem.
