There are talks taking place on another fourm regarding the question of should Wickhams soap co make a tallow soap or not, I'm not part of that fourm so I cannot take part in the conversation, It would have been nice to feel included as part of the shaving community but it apears it's a fourm thing.
Anyway those who only belong to TSR what are your thoughts on Wickhams producing a tallow soap and should it be under a separate banner other than Wickhams or keep it as Wickhams..........Wickhams Tallow Line or somthing like that? By now these decisions have probably been made anyway but it would feel good to be included so what's your opinion? Personally I like the idea of an other quality Tallow soap producer after all it's nothing new for Wickhams....they used to make a tallow soap before going totally vegan.

I don't believe tallow is requisite to making an exceptional shaving soap but if Darren/Mr Wickham believes using tallow either improves or creates a different soap to the already exceptional vegan soaps he makes I'd be intrigued to see how they perform as I'm sure his appreciations of how a soap functions are far greater than my own observations. If Darron/Mr Wickham does decide to make a tallow soap I hope he decides to to use the willing faces of this forum as his more than willing test subjects!

Not all top tier soaps contain tallow, but the vast majority do, FWIW. I had a tub of Wickham's Spice Trade(?) a few years back, but traded it to a buddy who wanted it badly. It was a very good soap and smelled great to boot. ;)

I'm of the opinion that you should focus on what you're good at. I'm sure Wickham could produce a good tallow formula, but there are so many out there, that I personally would focus on improving/innovating his current line.

Wickham is making great vegan soaps. It even says on their soap labels "vegetal". I have four soaps from them and samples of the whole rest of their shaving soaps. They perform outstanding, why would there be a need to make tallow based soaps?
On top of that, switching to animal based ingredients would loose them one aspect that makes them stand out from the rest of the soap makers. For me, the vegan and cruelty free aspect, along with the use of sustainable palm oil is the most important and only reason to buy their products.

Along side with their current range of soaps, not to replace what they already make and sell.........relax :) P

Well, taking care, that your products are vegan, cruelty free and enviromental halfway decent, shows that you as one of only a few manufacturers care and value those aspects. At least, the customer gets that image. They even use those points as marketing aspect on their website.
Once you include animal based products, you loose that credibility. It is a signal, that those values does not mean anything anymore.

Wickhams who you hold in such high regard and for good reason I may add used to produce a top notch Tallow soap, so they have not always been vegan freindly as a company and got along nicely selling both products before for whatever reason discontinuing the tallow soap. The beast is not killed for its tallow, tallow is simply a byproduct

I did not know Wickham in the time you mentioned, I can only judge from what I see at the moment. It is not only this special company but everyone that has established itself with certain values. Customers that like these values might/ will loose faith with that company, once they drop them.

It was simply a question asked by Wickhams Soap Co, should Wickhams put out a tallow soap? The question was asked over on ATG yesterday, it is not a done deal and I think if you feel strongly about the matter maybe you should make your feelings known to the man himself, I'm sure he would be interested in your views on the question he asked. P.

Wickham make very good soaps and some of the best soaps have tallow, so I think it's only fair they should experiment.
I respect/admire vegetarians and vegans for their stance but I'm always reminded of the old adage "be careful what you wish for, it might come true".
Before the advent of the motor car the horse population of London was so great it was causing great environmental problems.
Now its no longer profitable to keep a horse how often do you see one in London?

Basic theory of evolution would say that plants and animals which are farmed for food, clothing etc. very likely exist by much larger numbers than they otherwise would in the wild. Exploiting what is available in the wild (hunter-gathering=primitive societies) is what brings species to extinction, but farming (agriculture=civilization) is the exact opposite.

However, I understand that vegetarianism is essentially a religion (important part of jainism, buddhism, hinduism) so it goes beyond the pragmatic and empirical thinking. Kosher, halal, vegan, there's a market for everyone. No need to get worked up about it.
