Wickhams tallow shaving soap to be produced ?????

Cheers, it's definitely food for thought.

Having eaten horse I can attest to the fact that is delicious. A little "stringier" however. As a hunter I can also attest that modern day hunting helps regulate overcrowding and thereby prevents animals from a far more disturbing demise as Nature is far more cruel than any human. Watch a pride of lions eat a zebra while it is still alive as an example. ;)

Back on track, there are many shavers who will only use tallow soaps and as well the tallow obtained is a byproduct of normal mammal harvesting and is not derived from say monkeys used for medical experiments.

I take it tallow is a byproduct of beef and mutton/lamb being used in the food and pet food industries and would otherwise go to waste.
I've often wondered why lard isn't used in shaving soap. I thought maybe because it was too expensive then people started using more expensive fats like duck.

How many of us would really be able to spot the difference in a blind test between soaps mixing veggie oils and tallow and soaps with just veggie oils?

You know, back at the end of the 18th century, the idea of abolitionism was a total crazy and laughable one, until the UK became a leader in that movement.
;)

Society is changing and evolving all the time. Crazy ideas become mainstream. Maybe it is time for a switch from tallow to vegetable oils.

The market is big enough for both tallow and non tallow, we can both have what we want.......why would you want to force your will apon me by just having vegan soaps?
Free choice. The right to your opinion, the right to voice your opinion. The right to use what soap you wish to, you want all of this to come to an end? :) P.

I actually do not want to come on or sound that preachy, and actually did not want to enter a fundamental vegan discussion, but you bring up a good talking point.

There is a quote from Rosa Luxemburg:

“Freiheit ist immer die Freiheit des Andersdenkenden" - "Freedom is always, and exclusively, freedom for the one who thinks differently.”

For me, that means, that my freedom and liberty to choose ends, where it affects the lives of other living beings. If your choice to use animal ingredients in the products you consume, would only affect your own life, I am all for it. Do what you want and be happy.
Sadly, between you and me, an inncoent third party without a vote, voice or choice is involved in your choices.

This discussion reminds me of a part of the movie/ book "Fightclub", where they break into beauty clinics, steal the human fatty waste from liposuctions, make soap to sell it back to the very same fat people.
In the ATG forum, there was discussion, if it should be beef tallow, bison tallow, duck fat, or something else.
Here is food for thought...
If it does not matter what animal fat you use in the production, why not use properly processed human fat. Now that is what I would call a byproduct.
Should be not be any more or less gross than beef tallow or duck fat, is "harvested" without deaths and in the modern society of burgers and cola a regrowing ressource.
;)

It is all about, as Bogeyman aptly put it,"mammal harvesting". We can be pro or con. We can argue but slim chance anybody will listen and suddenly go Wow! my bad, I am on your side now :)
If the mammal was being harvested just for the tallow I may give it more thought but the mammal is being harvested for its meat and the tallow is just a by-product that would go to waste if it was not for the cosmetic industry as well as dog and cat foods, knowing that I don't feel at all guilty and nor should I be made to be. :) P
