Yaqi DOC

Discussion in 'DE Razors' started by donnie_arko, Friday January 19, 2018.

  1. It's the old story of scale economics.

Mr Smyth and other small vendors goes to China to make all sort of homage razors.
As there is no more patent for said razors the makers wait a bit and see if there is demand. If demand is there they will make more to sell directly undercutting the small vendors while still supplying the said vendors.

Luckily for vendors who put dosh into marketing their wares, many people prefer not to buy direct, although I understand Yaqi established a good marketing strategy and a good client services at a very short period.

It's a good thing for clearly what is an extremely microscopic market in the overall wet shaving world. That is, for those who don't want to shell out mucho dinero for a new design such as are the Wolfman, ATT, etc., razors. Far more palatable a small investment if it's a dud than one that costs 200 or 300. As well, there is often a greater feeling of joy in finding a real "sleeper" for peanuts than in coughing up a fistful of cash for one that absolutely must ring all the bells lest you be left feeling financially "shellacked". ;)

Couldn't resist buying a head to try, be interesting to see how it shaves. I found the PAA DOC to be very mild.

Nearly went a month without buying dammit!! :(:(

Me to. It’s on way from China, I’ll be about 95 when it finally turns up!

Yaqi are pretty good, about a 2 week turn around in my experience. Vigshaving on the other hand, its been 10 days and only now has my order (brush knot) left the factory. Like you I'll be 95 by the time it arrives :D

I'm just hoping it leaves China this side of the Chinese New Year (this Friday) as I'm sure that will slow stuff down for a week or two

What do you think of your Yaqi DOC? I've only used mine for a few shaves but I like it so far.

I think it's nothing short of fantastic, very comfortable and on the mild side. For the price it is superb. Get a windrose handle and you have a great complete razor for under £20. My only hang up would be aesthetically the logo is ugly but they have got a new version without it.

Just remember to turn the top cap over when British GQ magazine comes to photograph your crapper. ;) :D

Cooper three piece/Yaqi DOC. The Yaqi fixes what's broke with the Cooper (distortion of non-Cooper blades) and transforms the neglected StereoBilt into a mild but efficient machine. Fresh Nacet. Keeper.[IMG]

OK gentlemen, several of these heads/razors are in your hands so let's hear a comparison of how this DOC shaves against some other benchmark, please. Is it aggressive? middlin', mild? o_O

  13. Forget the stupid double-open-comb razor thing. What about this one:

  15. Yeah, it's a similar head to the Bevel and erm... can't remember which other razor it reminds me of right now. Anyone tried it?

It looks a similar design to the Hone Type 15. Nope, never tried it.

My experience of razors is largely confined to using ones on the milder spectrum of things. I'd say the DOC is more aggressive than a Tech but less aggressive than a Old Type, but I guess that observation applies to a lot of razors! The DOC is very smooth though, efficient too.

I used my Yaqi DOC for the first time today and I would agree with you, I will try an Old Type next to see how it compares.

EDIT: Milder than the Old Type I have but the Yaqi is smoother and very efficient.

  20. Pearl shaving an Indian razor maker has eerily similar models of the PAA prismatic and the DOC on their website. I am aware that the Pearl OC head was the one used by many brands including cadet, RR Jaws and even PAA Symmetry OC.

I've purchased a few Pearl razors and their quality is very comparable to other brands.
