Yaqi DOC

I ordered a DOC head and a OT head from Yaqi, both for about £10 delivered.

Not entirely sure why I placed an order for another OT head, as I have an original!
I'm hoping there's a slight difference at least between the Yaqi OT, as there has been with the MIC Tech & UK Tech, with the MIC variant being a touch less aggressive than it's UK counterpart.

If there are differences between the two or not, and the DOC I'll report back when I have them in my hands.

Irrespective of how the DOC shaves one important aspect to consider is that it looks fantastic. Well, ok it's not very important but it does look very cool to my eyes.

My only qualm with the YaQi's looks is the lasered 'YaQi-DLC' on the top cap. I prefer clean looking top caps irrespective of the razor though.

The PAA DOC has a top cap without a brand logo on top, but is a fair chunk more pricy.

@chris.hale
They posted up something on their FB along the lines to say the patent for the original had passed so they were placing them for sale again.

It's the old story of scale economics.

Mr Smyth and other small vendors goes to China to make all sort of homage razors.
As there is no more patent for said razors the makers wait a bit and see if there is demand. If demand is there they will make more to sell directly undercutting the small vendors while still supplying the said vendors.

Luckily for vendors who put dosh into marketing their wares, many people prefer not to buy direct, although I understand Yaqi established a good marketing strategy and a good client services at a very short period.

It's a good thing for clearly what is an extremely microscopic market in the overall wet shaving world. That is, for those who don't want to shell out mucho dinero for a new design such as are the Wolfman, ATT, etc., razors. Far more palatable a small investment if it's a dud than one that costs 200 or 300. As well, there is often a greater feeling of joy in finding a real "sleeper" for peanuts than in coughing up a fistful of cash for one that absolutely must ring all the bells lest you be left feeling financially "shellacked". ;)

Me to. It's on way from China, I'll be about 95 when it finally turns up!

Yaqi are pretty good, about a 2 week turn around in my experience. Vigshaving on the other hand, its been 10 days and only now has my order (brush knot) left the factory. Like you I'll be 95 by the time it arrives :D

I'm just hoping it leaves China this side of the Chinese New Year (this Friday) as I'm sure that will slow stuff down for a week or two

@nolisco

What do you think of your Yaqi DOC? I've only used mine for a few shaves but I like it so far.

I think it's nothing short of fantastic, very comfortable and on the mild side. For the price it is superb. Get a windrose handle and you have a great complete razor for under £20. My only hang up would be aesthetically the logo is ugly but they have got a new version without it.

Cooper three piece/Yaqi DOC. The Yaqi fixes what's broke with the Cooper (distortion of non-Cooper blades) and transforms the neglected StereoBilt into a mild but efficient machine. Fresh Nacet. Keeper.

OK gentlemen, several of these heads/razors are in your hands so let's hear a comparison of how this DOC shaves against some other benchmark, please. Is it aggressive? middlin', mild? o_O
