Well cuts almost healed up so just had another shave, still with my Muhle 89 twist and Feather Blade (I have listened and will try the yellow WS razor from Boots with a different blade). Again cuts around the moustache region. My view thus far is DE shaving is good if you have a lot of time and can do more than one pass, but for a quick shave, I believe that the Gillette Sensor Cartridge Blade gives a far better result, especially on a one pass. I appreciate that some people consider shaving to be a hobby, but I do not see it as a hobby no more than washing my hair or taking a shower or cleaning my teeth. I see these processes as something I like/need to do every day as part of my hygiene routine and to make me feel good. I therefore need a quick shave preferably with no cuts. There is also more additional time taken with the lathering routine and the cleaning up of the bush and the mixing bowl etc, which one does not need should one use say Gillette Shaving Gel for sensitive skin. Admittedly, there are cost savings to be had by using the DE method, but I personally do not think DE shaving lends itself to every day shaing, unless one's beard grows at an incedible rate, which mine does not, even though I need a shave every day.
I think Rhubarb above makes a good point. I remember many many years ago I was very ready in GE Trumpers Shop in Jermyn street to shell out around £300 for the Straight razor, strop, wooden shaving bowl, soap etc (and that was a fair amount 30 odd years ago); I am glad I didn't, but had I done so I may have just mastered the art by now. It's funny, but before I invested in the Muhle, I contacted them and enquired if I would get a better shave with the Muhle compared with my Gillette Sensor. The reply came back, that I should get an equally good shave with the Muhle.
I have watched many on-line tutorials, the best of which I found were by Geo Fatboy, which I found very informative and the one submitted by riverrun above, about establishing the direction of beard growth is also very good. Yes, a lot of research went in, but overall and at the moment I am still in favour of the Gillette Sensor 2 Blade Cartridge System c/w Gillette Sentive Gel.
At the end of the day it's all about personal choice/preference.
I look forward to any further comments, should anyone have any.
Kind regards, whitesix.
