Today's shave wasn't exactly one I'd associate with this fine forum and I do hope I am not sullying my reputation here with the following shave.
I'm trying to test out some bits and pieces which are intended for my nephew who's just started shaving. His first shave was a Gillette Profusion something something and the nasty blue Gillette Gel, that came courtesy of his father/my brother in law. Even though I think a DE/brush & soap would be the superior choice I can't see it happening, so I will give somethings which I think might be a bit better suited for my nephew that what is currently using.
13/1/18
Pre - RSC Facial Scrub
Soap - Nivea Sensitive Foam
Razor - Gillette Guard (1)
Passes - 1 x WTG, 1x ATG
Post - Alum/Nivea Balm
AS - Ayup Sabri Tobacco Cologne
It seems the multi blade razor is king right now, with seemingly very few options for single edged razors be it disposables or cartridges with the Gillette Guard being one of the few around and one with a good reputation as well. It seemed fairly sharp in use, possibly not the smoothest though. It did a reasonable job for the first pass, but a second pass was needed and the results are pretty good. I managed to nick myself on the chin a few times, and the alum was needed.
The Nivea Sensitive Foam felt reasonable on the face - possibly a touch drying but it made me appreciate how wonderfully slick and conditioning some of my favourite soaps are.
Aside from a bit of post shave dryness the shave itself was pretty good and I was reasonably impressed with the Gillette Guard, but less so with the canned foam. I may see if there are any alternative options which may suit a beginner shaver.
