I've just advertised a vacancy I have for a secretary and I'm getting applicants to send in their CV.

While the vast majority of CV's are well presented there have been a few which have spelling errors, shocking grammar and other errors. I would have thought that it was obvious to everyone that slapdash on a job application is pointless!

I'm replying to any like that saying, as politely as I can, that they fell at the 1st hurdle as we would require accuracy and that hopefully the feedback can assist them in the future. I've had it in the past with others and no doubt will in the future surely its not rocket science to either read through or get someone else to!

A couple of weeks ago I interviewed a young man that was interested in working for us and he turned up chewing gum and proceeded to do so through the entire interview.

On the plus side it means I don't waste my time calling them in and I suppose that they are not misrepresenting themselves but in these competitive times it astounds me.

It may be tempting to recruit a top heavy lovely, but it can be frustrating if you spend all day at work getting hungry only to find out there's no dinner ready when you get home.

I once had to recruit Christmas Temp staff for my old work and a couple years back I interviewed this girl who sort of fit the bill for what we were looking for but just wasn't right. She was a proper stunner though. As part of the interview I'd to ask the question "Is there anything you could say to us that would make us want to employ you over someone else?". She sort of looked at the floor for a minute, looked up, made eye contact and said "You would not regret employing me." She got offered the job but couldn't start when we needed her to.

On a related note though I got a call today asking me if I wanted to do an interview for a Technical Support job. This from a company who usually just email and even text when they have vacancies.

A little surprised I said ok. I don't have any Tech experience on my CV.

I aced the Tech questions which were asked over the phone and was then told I was contacted because of my professional manner over the phone in a previous interview.

I go in for an interview proper tomorrow :D
 
Yep the interview process starts at 1st contact, anyone that comes in or telephones is immediately giving me 1st impressions.

Good luck, with your interview the fact that they approached you is a great start.

I pre-empted re-buggering my face as I was planning to leave it a few days till that radness calmed down. Shaving for the interview was unavoidable. I couldn't push it 3 days without a shave then go to an interview.

Fortunately tonights shave was incident free with the exception of angering the already angry bit.

My low neck is looked out and got my best bra washed ;)
