Astra SP / SS: differences?

I've tried Astra SP and liked them but was also wondering about Astra SS. They get very little mention on this forum and I haven't found a small pack to try (only 100 blades on eBay!)

Anyone else tried them?

I love how smooth the SP's are but no matter what razor I use them they bring me up with red irritation. And the SS I found to be quite draggy but only tried it twice as life is to short.
 
I prefer the SS in my EJ DE89, but the SP in my Merkur 34c. Haven't a clue as to why, but it just seems to work better that way. I suspect there isn't a huge amount of difference, but I'm happy to defer to Carl as to what it is.
 
I ordered some SS for my superspeed by mistake, having found the SPs to excellent. The SS blades ate just as good and slightly cheaper.
