I love Oxblood too, although the strip lights at work must have a blueish cast because they just make it look brown. :-(
I have the Cult Pens Deep Dark Blue, I like it a lot. As BrainPilman says, it's made by Diamine so it's good ink. I bought the 30ml bottle, but will probably get a full-sized one when it's done.
There's nothing wrong with filling the converter then putting it into the pen, it's the way to go for getting the last drop out of the bottle. My favourite pen (Lamy 2000) is a piston filler, so it just seems natural to me to leave the converter in.
