Eclipse razor

There seems to by alot of hype about the eclipse red ring razor
I know its a vintage razor and looks nice but Im seeing it offered for $650US!
is it worth this much or is it just the in thing at the momment?

If someone's prepared to pay it then it must be worth it to them. No way I'd pay that for a razor, nowhere near...but I'm a utilitarian shaver rather than a collector. It's a razor I had a notion to try, but at that price it seems like I won't be!
 
It's just another razor and I could think of half a dozen others that shave a little better too IMO. Trouble is the world of high price NOS seeking collectors does infect our little hobby so if you do find one for £8 you ain't going to tell.
 
I think a few other's have said before that they rate the shave from these as some where between poor and crap.

I've got one and would have to agree, the over inflated prices do not reflect the quality of the shave.
 
I have to concur (though I've only had one go with it) and as a Sheffielder it pains to me to say it's disappointing, but it is.

Compare and contrast to my first shaves with an Aristocrat Junior and the Darwin, both of which were great.
