Hello,
i was wondering if it is possible to restore a paddle strop?it is a nice little strop just over an inch wide and almost 8 inches long, but the actual leather bits on both sides worn out, is it possible to replace them and put it back to use?
thanks alot

I think it's perfectly possible, though whether it's worth the financial outlay of a restore versus a new one is debateable. Have a chat with Neil Miller at the Strop Shop and see if he can do it. If not, a leather furniture restorer can probably do a decent job of it too given the right type of leather.

If you are prepared to have a go yourself, there's a seller on Ebay who sells English pit tanned leather perfect for strops and it comes in the right thickness, I made two paddle stops for myself it's perfect. here's the link showing some of thier cheaper strops, but they also sell the uncut strop quality leather in different thickness.

Totally possible, although if your replacing the leather, might I ask what about the underlying wood is so valuable to you that you want to save it?

Your quite possibly better off financially to replace the paddle as well.

Thanks alot for all your suggestions and ideas, much appreciated. I decided to leave it as is, I know for sure if i want to restore it, i will make it worse and ruin the lot.
thanks alot
