Did you use it as a stick? You can press it down into a small bowl and use it like any other soap.

It can be surprising how cheap products outperform other expensive ones. Maybe one downside is that the scents are not as exciting; but I quite like Palmolive scent.
The boots shave stick is also excellent and cheap.
Real Shaving Company creams and ASB perform really well and can be found in discount shops for a quid or so.

Have you tried:
Usually less than £2 a tube in most Superdrug stores or the occasional local independent chemists. Very refreshing with its menthol content and made in Blighty, too.
