Turkish Shaves

I went for a shave at a "Salon". A relative thought they were doing me a favour and bought me a voucher for the shave. It was torture and my face was sore for days. They have seen the last of me. One of my daughters has bought me another voucher for a "Turkish Shave" at a Turkish barbers and I am now plucking up the courage to go. She keeps asking me when am I going for the shave. I haven't worked out yet if they love me or just want to inflict pain.

Thats the total opposite to my experience.

I went for mine and it was that good that its what made me decide to get rid of the mach3 and start "proper" shaving.

heres a nice video for you all to see!..its a bit comical as well

i went to one once, and they cut me to shreds. I have extremely sensitive skin at the best of times, it's easilly roughed up by a blade held at just the slightly wrong angle. I also have odd hair on my neck that grows in several directions, and years of learning my own face has taught me how to deal with this. They just ploughed on, and as a result, my neck was covered in cuts, nicks and redness. My neck looked like a plucked chicken.

Never again!!

I had a shave from a Turkish barber in Turkey. It was done with a shavette, and before I had started DE shaving, but was one of the reasons I started. As such I had no knowledge of what blade or technique was used, but I remember it being Arko soap  and I liked the strong lemon aftershave and flaming thing to singe the hairs!

It was a good shave too, no irritation and fairly close. Six months in I'm able to get a closer shave, but I certainly remember it as an enjoyable experience.

What is this stick with the cotton (wet with alcohol) they do at the end of the shave?
Is it to remove any hairs around the ear?

I've had Turkish shaves is the UK and on Holiday in Turkey the ones in Turkey were much better then what I've had at home. I think that is down to the Barbers doing shaves every day as opposed to not very often. I have seen a youtube vid of a guy getting a shave from a Turkish barber in london they look pretty slick with all the elements of a shave you would get out in Turkey.
