When to moisturise?

I'm relatively new to proper shaving, but my morning routine is to shave, moisturise, cycle to work, shower.

I figure it makes sense to moisturise straight after shaving, but wonder if I might be better off waiting till after I've showered at work?

Does moisturising before the bike ride protect me a bit? Does showering undo all my good work? I currently use Nivea post shave balm.

Anybody got any views?

Shave after you shower - softens the beard very well.

Ideally I would, but practicalities dictate that I shave at home, shower at work :icon_sad:

I like to travel light on the bike and would prefer not to have to transport shaving gear to and from work.

Well, I'd advocate using a light aftershave balm after you shave, then you can always moisturise after you shower if you feel your face needs it.

Thanks for the response. I'll stick with the current regime for now and see how I get on. I suspect a cold winter will be the toughest test.
