Tuesday 28 May
So, back from our quick visit to Poole, decided to keep on with the Brazilian Wilki to see how far it goes before it fades. Today for its 3rd outing I harnessed it to the Gillette 1934 New Traveller No4, made in England which I have as part of its original traveller set.
Simpsons Eagle and Southern’s valley of ashes completed the combo. The Eagle is new and still quite stiff, the soap gives a soft lather and unusual scent, not unpleasant.
The oc razor combined with the Wilki was on the aggressive side which I felt when going over the sides of my neck. No weepers though. The razor and set is in very good nick for 90 years old with good original plating. I don’t think I could use it daily, but it is a traveller so occasional use would be ok and probably accounts for its still being in very good condition.
Wtg and atg plus pick ups gave the desired bbs finish
Have a great day fellas!

Yesterday's shave:
These Winfield blades are new to me and I couldn't find anything about them online. They say made in Gt. Britain on the back of their plastic dispensers so could be from the Permasharp factory, as this is what they did on their blades. Sheffield-made or Cramlington-made blades would say made in England.
Based on one shave from one shave in one razor they are sharp and quite smooth, but I've had smoother. I'm looking forward to trying it in the Eclipse Red Ring.

I still love the scent of the Spartacus!

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Razor: Gillette Mk. I Adjustable 195 'Fatboy' (1960)
Blade: Winfield Super Stainless
Brush: Unbranded vintage boar Small, wooden handle
Lather: Arianna & Evans Spartacus
Aftershave: Arianna & Evans Spartacus

Another option for place of manufacture is East Kilbride - a satellite new-town south of Glasgow. Permasharp manufactured blades under license for a number of brands - including Personna - until the early 70's. They were sued in the late 60's by Gillette for infringement of patent but the case was rejected by Glasgow Sheriff Court. Gillette had the last laugh though - they ultimately bought the company and shut the factory - but kept the Permasharp name - which they still use. The firm had a 'gimmick' - they let their male workers shave at the factory during paid time - I know this to be true as I met someone who worked there before he joined the police.
Cheers - I.

Yes I believe they could be from that very factory! I've also seen - probably on this very forum - the newspaper article about shaving using Permasharp blades in the workplace to check for quality.
Didn't know Gillette sued and lost though.
I believe Permasharp went bust for tax issues in 1972

It's quite difficult to find out much about the plant there - pretty much all I know is contained in this post - cheers - I.

That's brilliant, thank you! I have never seen that post before.

I believe I have some of those early stainless blades if you want to try them. See my post link below.
Just drop me a PM if you want me to send you some.

Lovely box, does that come with the Hone Razor?

Tuesday 28th. May

Soap • Stirling Duke
Brush • Yaqi Bali 24mm Synthetic
Razor • Razorock Game Changer. 68-P
Blade • PolSilver- Lodz (2)
Post • Stirling Duke splash

Repeat of my last shave - partly because I couldn't be bothered to change, and partly because it was so good.
This Stirling soap is quite a bit softer than all of the others I have - almost croap like. Has anyone else made the same observation, I wonder?
Anyhow, it certainly ticks all of the performance boxes - and then some.
The Game Changer. 68 is capable, but from memory, the .84 variant was a fair bit more efficient (while retaining smootness/comfort)

Soap - Arko Stick
Brush - Omega 10077
Razor - Gillette Rocket HD
Blade -Supermax Blue Diamond Platinum
AS - La Rive Cabana

I'd been using just my synths over the last few weeks, and even though they make lathers almost perfectly they get really boring after a while.

Plastic bristles have no soul, like using a fake brush.
