October is almost upon us and it's a great excuse to celebrate the open comb and run through some of our favourites.

Whatchgot planned?

Me? For the week and then weekend ...

Gillette Old Type (c.1915) & Merkur 15C
Gillette New Type (Short Comb) USA & Gillette New Type (Long Comb) USA
Gillette Old Type Milady (c.1910) & Gillette Goodwill (#160)
Gillette New Type (RFB) GB & WJM (CC 1945)

Have fun!

That’s a good shout open comb month
although i don’t think i could manage the full month.
My skin is very sensitive you know lol.
I was meant to be going on holiday this month but can’t make my mind up where to go.

I've got a 1930s Gillette New long comb, a generic double open comb and an R41 clone that might qualify.

do we class the R41 as open comb? I know muhle says it is. it has teeth closest to the skin but also a solid bar and lather channels under them. so semi open comb? (no pun intended)

I'll keep the cream, brush and aftershave the same and rotate blades though the two or three razors for the month.

I'll work through a proraso red cream. I think the sandalwood will work well in the autumn weather. for aftershave, either avon tai winds (which has some spicy notes) or I might give a bay rum a try (pinaud virgin island bay). although bay rum might be more of a warm weather scent? I've never used any yet.

I'm actually thinking of breaking out of the rabbit hole and going full-on Gem blade. That's really something for someone who once scoffed at Gem. I have two purchases of 1950s Ever-Ready razors in unused NOS condition albeit with tatty outer packaging on the way confirmed by tracking. Watch out for pics in the Aquisitions thread. I'm going to vary it with a Razorock SLOC / Yaqi DOC double open comb which at this time appears to be having a problem getting dispatched by the retailer, my existing Fatip OC and my existing Parker Soloedge. .

Probably the only problem I have with my existing Ever-Ready 1912 is on my top lip where the head and blade has to be at am almost lethal angle akin to a straight razor but I'm getting used to it.

So for open comb month it'll be the double open comb and Fatip OC for me.

I haven't really thought that far ahead by current rotation is the Leaf Twig, which I find superb with lots of blades albeit with a shim, and the Fasan. The Neo Lux Schrägschnitt hasn't been used for a month or so.
The Sticky is liking to get an outing or too.

I will have to have a dig through some accessible stuff and see what takes my fancy.

In terms of open combs I have a New, Old, Goodwill and probably a few others that don't immediately spring to mind.

I might pull out an odd razor or two.

I'll be doing Open Comb October using a variety Fatips, R41s and my Karve CB

I've already started with a Fatip Il Grosso for this week.
