Super-fast Rust and Black Marks on razor?

Bought a Dovo razor a few days ago as it had good reviews and seemed like a reputable brand. It arrived in great condition, and somehow yesterday morning, Brown rusty gunk had appeared on it leaving several black marks underneath on both sides that I can't for the life of me seem to clean off.. The closest thing I can find online is normal tarnishing, but that happens over a long period of time, not a few hours. Last night I spent about half an hour, cleaned it thoroughly, carefully wiped down the blade and inside the scales with a microfibre cloth to make sure everything was dry, and put silica and O2 absorber packs in its case for good measure. Now 4 hours later, this brown rusty liquid is back with more black staining. I've never known anything to rust at this rate. I'm worried this is ruining my brand new razor.

Anyone able to advise?

Those posts seem to be talking about carbon steel, this one I believe is Stainless. But it's rusting in a matter of hours what you'd expect from a week of moisture. It might sound like a crude fix, but is it worth just dunking it in a bowl of vegetable oil while I order some proper blade oil?

Pics?

Stainless isn't immune to staining. Especially if left in contact with carbon steel. That said, are you sure it is a stainless blade?

I'm sure I saw “STAINLESS” engraved somewhere. I'll check the product info on Dovos site.
That rust (that's) now there has appeared again in the last 45 minutes.

edit - no you're right, it is carbon steel. Buggery.

That should polish out relatively well at this stage but going forwards you'd be foolish to not grab a small bottle of mineral oil and some tissue paper and give it a wipe down after a thorough drying, post-shaving.

@Fergiebilly and @Blademonkey will give good advice on care and maintenance of straights. Both have good experience with carbon steel razors.

I have 100% silicone oil I use on gun parts if that's something worth applying before some proper blade oil arrives?

It's just all taken me by surprise a little at the rate it's rusting.

Probably better off with olive oil for short-term before anything else arrives. Silicone oil is chemically far more distinct to mineral oils than cooking oils.

Any suggestion on what I should use to polish out these existing marks?
Peek polish is a non-abraisive so usually quite good for minor marks. I know Fergiebilly has recommended Autosol polish which I use for my cars' exhaust pipes to good effect. I've also used it to polish up razors before but it's not the finest of polishes. If you're a dab hand with a dremel/polishing mop, you can get mirror finishes with red iron oxide paste, but if you've no experience I'd avoid that option.

Otherwise, if it's a new Dovo, perhaps consult one of their staff? Did they include any 'starter guides' or 'caring for your razor' info? If not, how were you supposed to know how to stop it rusting/prevent rusting?

It only arrived on Sunday, there was a slip of paper but the only thing it mentioned about rust and oiling, is that you should oil the blade if you're planning on not using it for a long period of time.

Might be worth contacting them before you look to polish yours then? You've been advised on a non-descript timeframe (what is a 'long period'? 3 hours? 3 days? 3 years? 3 decades?). I'd stress that you're concerned rather than blaming them, as ultimately the care of the razor lies with you, but that you were surprised to find this in as short a period as it's been.

Do you rinse the whole razor, blade and scales, in running water after shaving?

No, I read somewhere not to do that. I just wipe it down with a damp kitchen towel, dry with a micro fibre cloth then strop it and back in the case. I thought I was doing the right things, but evidently not!
