Any UK artisan razor makers

There's American razor makers which I'd describe as artisan, making high quality razors in small numbers. Are there any in UK? Seems most of razors in UK, are from large companies. Great razors but is anyone producing something a bit different.?

This looks stylish and well made. If it gave a clise, comfortable shave I may buy it.Only the brass one is shown as available.

Any tips on DIY handles? Much easier to produce than a whole razor. Making nice handles should lend itself to a bit of a cottage industry if the price were competitive.

A year or two back it was all the rage here on this forum and you can find many good threads on the Hone in the archives here. Realize however that RAD affects many on the forums quite strongly...

Indeed, I too am a sucker for a well made British product. So I will be investigating the previous forum posts about the Hone. They are describing the Hone 15 as a "mild" shave. A dangerous claim I understand, as I doubt any manufacturer would describe a product as "really aggressive, likely to take your face off" My interpretation is D89=mild. Can any owners out there corroborate pls?

@Satanfriendly Hi, acording to the website a UK based company; from memory the razors are manufactured in Germany.

Hi, According to Google maps that address is a house. As the razor was probably designed on a computer, and could well have been designed there (or not). Their website says the razors are CNC machined out of brass or aluminium. So they are manufactured by a computer (in Germany). Let's just say they are made in the EU in small production runs.
Artisan - a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand. Perhaps not.

@neilwf - Good point; it made me think about what Artisan may mean in modern times.

I would be tempted to classify the Hone as an artisan razor - the design in the modern era is probably 60 - 80% of the work, once refined a CNC machine then takes over. However, for me the designer has a range of other tasks to do, to take a viable product to market. Patenting their work, securing a supply chain including production, quality control, distribution and marketing.

Andrew who is behind Hone, if my memory is right, designed medical equipment and got into razor design and production as he wanted to see if he could improve his and the shave experience of others.

I'm not sure many if any razors are now produced in a cottage industry style fashion - which may make a one man band/start-up designer and producer come as close to artisan as we may get in these time. Just my point of view.

All the best,

Chris
