6s alternatives.

Treated myself to a 6s after reading how great it is. Only place in stock was direct from the US and had pay a customs fee.
Just unpacked my new toy and put a blade on, a Personna Platinum. Was very hard to put on and even hard to take off! Tried a Gullette Silver Blue, same thing so I've emailed Rockwell to arrange it's return.

So what would you guys suggest instead? Currently using a Edwin Jagger de89 but find it a bit mild.
Is the Merkur 34c as mild? I don't want a aggresive shave, but something that will deal with the stubborn stubble along my jawline better.

I do like something that's well made and will last a while.

Ask 100 people and you will get 100 different recommendations.

I have a wiry, dense growth, and I like my iKon B1 and Above the Tie R1, both with Polsilver blades. Maybe you will want to try a Feather AS-D2, with Feather blades? Very mild, but so in a very effective way.

BTW: I have never had any issues with loading/unloading blades of all types in my 6S.

What was difficult about loading the blade? Did it snag a little on the thread of the top cap? I've found no issues with either the 6S which I borrowed a while back or the 6C which I owned for some time.

Snagged alot, really had to force it down. Once on, a real effort to get it off again. I googled and seems others had same problem, so must be a faulty batch.

Got email back saying they will send me a new top cap, but guess I'll get stung custom fees again. I replied no thanks, I'd like to return for a refund.
Then get a dispatched email for the top cap Grrrrr!!! so much for the "no questions asked refund policy".

They're trying to make it right for you, don't discount the 6S just yet. They may well have marked the replacement part with a low value (seeing as no money changed hands for its purchase).

Plus, if you return it, you not only have to pay for the postage costs, but will also not be able to recover the fees you originally paid when it was imported - so you're losing out big time.

Bought the Above the Tie in a pack with M1, R1, and S1 heads as I wasn't sure which would suit. Started off with M1, then found R1 is a great shave for me. S1 gave me a few cuts so haven't been brave enough to give it another go! Impressed with the manufacture and quality of the ATT, screws together well, comes apart no problem. Seldom use my other DE razors now.

They do state free returns.
Could there still be a £12 Royal Mail handling fee for the replacement?
It's just very disappointing to get a expensive item turn up after a long wait with such a big defect. Got the impression it's not worth the money and a shoody company, but guess I'll wait and see how it turns out.

It depends how much they have declared the value at PLUS the cost of the postage stuck on the package (as they now add them together). Under £15 there is nothing extra to pay. You may well be okay as how can they put a value on something no money has been exchanged for. I expect it will be declared as 'replacement parts' with a nominal value like $1 or something... Unless they are stupid.

The tracking is with DHL, but it is sent to Royal Mail who charged the import fee plus a £8 handling fee for processing, so guess I'll still have to pay that?

No that processing fee is only chargeable when there are customs fees to pay. It's some made-up scam because they have in effect paid the fees on your behalf already before delivering and insist it costs them £8 to recover those fees from you (it's literally money for nothing). If the total is under £15 value you won't have anything to pay.

Why is that? How were your shaves going? You never even mentioned that? I think you shouldn't count it out just bc the blade wouldn't load/unload properly.
I've not tried using it. Once the blade is forced down, it really is an effort to get it off again. Have to bend n flex it, risking cuts to my fingers. so best leave unused for it's return.
