Efficiency of a Gillette NEW

Hello,

Long time since I last posted, but a thought popped to my mind...

I absolutelly love the performance of a Gillette New or New Improved. I'm amazed at how much stubble they can remove in one and/or two passes, no matter if it's everyday or several days have passed. All with ease and zero irritation. I have a Rockwell that on baseplate #6 is also very effective, but somehow doesn't induce the same level as the New still.

What is it that makes that type of razor so darn effective? I've always thought that SB vs. OC was of no issue.

I guess this is a two part question for me.. because the possible answer to the above leads to my next one... which modern (brass, alu or stainless) will equal that Gillette New in performance and ease?

Thanks in advance!!

You can't out shave a vintage brass razor, no matter how much money you spend, or how much stainless steel you use.

I was hoping such razor existed..but it might be in my mind, because my brass Gillette's will sure outlast me for good.

I'd stick with your gorgeous vintage Gillette. Got one. Won't be selling it.

Ohh, wont be selling mine either.. precious pieces, they are. :)

The Piccolo is what I would use exclusively if all vintage razors suddenly evaporated.

Had one - tore my face completely to pieces.. ouch! I wanted to like it though.

Blade exposure between the teeth which for some (such as myself) is too much for harder areas to shave. I always got slight nicks around my mouth & chin with both the New SC & LC. Sold both.

I always thought that would be my problem when I got one, but from day one they have treated me premium, go figure!

Modern, I'll offer a DE here, the Karve CB..

That is one swell looking piece! Wow... but also a lot of dough if it's not better...

Maybe it's all in my mind, but my constant quest for a modern something is of fear that the vintage one should break.. silly, aint it?

You're just looking for an excuse to buy something! And you're looking for an accomplice! :p

You can get a bucket full of vintage for the price of a handful of modern. ;)

You asked for equal.
They became vintage because they're pretty indestructible.

Alright alright, I'll bin the thought :)

I'll continue to enjoy the vintages!

Clarity feels better than confusion doesn't it? The carnival barkers are always trying to lure you in.

It sure does! I haven't sold my Rockwell 6S yet (it is for sale though), but come to think of it, I guess it makes zero sense to sell that, loose a bit on it and then "invest" in a Karve.. materials aside, the concept and idea is exactly the same.

Thanks, guys!
