7 day review of the Hone type 15a

image.jpg Day five of the Hone type 15a review Monday 5th sept 2016

Today i am using a Gillette 7o clock yellow blade with this razor.

After lathering up with good quality shaving soap, P&B Albion. I began my first pass, WTG, no drarma, nice and smooth and good sound feedback as it mowed through the stubble .

Second pass XTG, this lightweight razor is easy and dream to use and although my hands were wet it felt secure and gave me full control over the razor, good amount of stubble removed.

Third pass ATG, no problems with this blade even ATG on par with the Astra's I've been using, just about done, a quick clean up in the usual places for me and finnished.

My face is smooth and I have zero irritation, which seems to be one of the Hone's strong points ....it's so smooth in use, it may be a mild razor but even if you have to clean up an area there is no fear of razor burn.

I am pleased with the performance of this razor, my face is as smooth as the razor looks and no irritation, perfect.

As far as the blade was concerned it was very much like an Astra and for me works well in this razor.

Tomorrow I will try a voskhod blade just to mix things up a little.

These are my thoughts and opinions and they may differ from you findings.

Over and out.

image.jpg Day six of the Hone type 15a review Tuesday 6th September 2016

Today I thought I would try a Voskhod blade in this new Hone razor. It was very smooth indeed but a little tame for this razor and found I had to do a four pass plus a clean up but even after after all of that I still had zero irritation which says a lot about the razor and also the blade but as with the brass Hone 15 the voskhod was just too mild for this Hone .
I'm enjoying using this razor, it's so light you hardly feel it in your hand and it so easy to buz around my face and is so well behaved it never gives you the impression that it could bite you.

Well tomorrow will be my last day of this seven day review and I will be going back to using the Astra SP blades which I have found the best all round blade for me with this razor.

Over and out.

image.jpg Day seven of the Hone type 15a Wednesday 7th September 2016.

This is my 7th day using the Hone type 15a with standard handle, I reverted back to using the Astra SP blades because for me I found them to be a good balance between sharp and smooth.
I won't go over the details of this shave for ease of reading apart from saying it was as good as my other shaves using the Astra SP blades.

To sum up my feelings about this razor....well it is a very well made bit of kit, aluminium throughout making it extremely light. The top cap covers the blade tabs which I like in a razor.
The handle I like although it can be ordered in a longer length if required .
The finnish on the razor is very good, offering good grip even with wet hands, the top cap did tend to drag ever so slightly on my skin on occasion but not so much as to make it a bad experience .
The shave, it always gave a very good shave with three passes and a little clean up in my experience and was so smooth I never had any irritation of any kind.
The only time I felt any discomfort was when I was using a new feather blade and I have had the same experience with other razors so this was a blade issue and nothing to do with the razor.
The price of the razor I thought was reasonable at £65 with only £8 shipping with the option of a very nice leather case for £25, I purchased the leather case because of its protection value and it looks fabulous too, and talking about fabulous that's how I feel about the looks of this razor being almost identical to its award winning older brother the Hone type 15 (brass)
I think Anderw aka @Hone has come up with another award winning razor with the 15a
Having used this now for seven days I would recommend this razor to anyone who maybe found the origanal Hone too heavy, it has won me over and will be gladly used in rotation with my other razors.
I must point out I paid full price for this razor and case and have had no financial incentive to produce this review for Hone, I did this so others may benefit from my findings.
I hope anyone reading this has found it helpful .
Over and out.

@Blademonkey Thank you for your honest and balanced reviews. They are great to read, and I really value hearing real world usage and opinions. The 15a came from hearing feedback just like this, and similarly I am making notes for anything new in the future. So there might well be some changes inspired by this, thank you. :)
Thanks Andrew for your kind words, reviewing this razor,a beautiful peice of design has been my pleasure. Good luck going forward.

Great review, hoping to get my hands on one of these razors in black when they are back in stock.
Thank you, I'm sure you will love the 15a when you are able to secure one for yourself. I must admit I prefer the brass one but it has nothing to do with the performance of the aluminium one, I just like brass and weight! :) P.
