Anyone here shoot?

From NI originally. I had a 44mag underlever rifle and a 9mm pistol while I was there. Got rid of them before I moved to Wales. I had had enough of shooting in the Army. Have gradually drifted back into Air rifle and air pistol.

I used to shoot a lot when my in-laws were farming, with shotguns and also small-bore rifle for pigeon control. When they retired and sold up, I kept on my licences for occasional use, but, in the end, the cost, the bureaucracy, and the feeling of perpetually being regarded as a criminal-in-waiting by "the authorities" persuaded me to give it all up.

It was a bit of a wrench, as I'm now in my sixties, and started shooting at about eight, when I was sent to Churchill's shooting school to be taught properly. I then shot in the school shooting Eight, with plenty of. 303 in the CCF. My first shotgun was a Jeffreys 28-bore.

I was a pretty good shot, but like anything else, too little and infrequent practice leads to a decline in performance (!?) and I started missing more. No big deal with clays and targets, but a good reason to give up game shooting.

I can imagine. I went to the Midlands Game Fair a few years back, I wore walking boots with jeans and a grey fleece jacket and I was amazed by the number of idiots who'd turned up in full army camouflage and high-leg combat boots. A couple of them were also wearing those "tactical" vest things with all the pouches on, they looked proper bell ends.

I'm a member of an airgun club and they we get the tactical vest type there too.

I must be lucky as I get to carry a handgun every day and sometimes two when the need arises. I have shot just about everything, but I could never cure the blackpowder bug as it bit me hard after seeing Jeremiah Johnson as a kid. Too many Brits have forgotten the legendary name of Curtis's & Harvey's who in the 19th century made the some of the best blackpowder ever.

Without getting too political, perhaps if things keep up as they have of late the U.K. might consider rescinding the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997, or at the minimum another Lend/Lease plan. ;)
