Blade Review Spreadsheet

very interesting reviews. will give me a steer on blades to try

noticed you don't have Apollo no.10 blades in the review. if you haven't tried them i could drop a couple in the post. i personally didn't take to them at all but the chap in my local shaving emporium ( the gentlemans groom room in Dundee ) finds them a good shave.

Excellent work on the spreadsheet and very helpful too!

One minor discrepancy I noticed: the pictures next to Polsilver Stainless and Polsilver Super Iridium seem to be switched around.

Thanks for that. Had some problems and lost loads of the links to the photos a while back. Will swap the pics round in the next few days

Hi,

You have been doing a tremendous job - it is impressive - thanks a lot !

What about Super Iridium - is this still in production :-/

Greetings

A superb piece of work Carl with plenty of new additions.

I have noted how impressed you were with the PAL Carbon Blades! I would have loved to have been there when you tested them...just a trifle 'tuggy'?

Regards
Dick.

Thanks.

Not sure if they are in production or not. Still available online

My apologizes... You are right - I read a long blog on a similar French site. It looks like the SI available in the market are pale copies since 2005...

Procter & Gamble has been working hardly to make closed different manufactures producing fakes as SI brand belong to them...

So you were right. Now it is true that those fakes on the market manage to build their place... :icon_wink:

Excellent spreadsheet - thank you for sharing it. It seems a bit of a shame that most of the "best" blades seem to be out of production! Still it gives me some blades to look for.

Thanks again,

David

Thanks. Hope it proves useful. There are still some superb blades out there - Astra, most if not all of the Gillette 7 o'clock range, Personna's various offerings, Permasharp, Super Thins and other less well known Chinese brands, plus (if you like them) the Egyptian offerings from Lord and Sotraco like Shark, Racer and of course Lord.

What I find disappointing is how much Wilkinson Swords have gone in the other direction. Gillette still produces some excellent blades by most people's reckoning

Funny you mention that, Carl - while I agree completely that the German Wilkies are a disappointment given how good their English predecessors were, I reckon the Indian Gillette Wilkinson Sword Saloon blades are well-worth trying. They're not the sharpest blade around, but I find them extremely smooth, which is rare in my experience with mild blades - mild often seems to be inseparable from "rough" or "tuggy".

+1 on the Saloon Wilkies - for me they are almost as good as 7 O'clock Yellows.
