Standing up for the National Anthem at the end of a film at the Cinema. Had I not experienced this myself, I'd find it hard to believe. I can last remember it happening in the 60s, though I'm not sure when the practice was discontinued.
Health & Safety outlawed the practice in 1972,, because there were too many people getting injured in the rush to get out before it started.
 
don't forget the milkman in his electric vehicle (they will never catch on )

Well remember shivering my way round housing estates in the dark of winter to catch silent milk floats with their lights turned out to conserve the batteries. Between them and the newspaper delivery boys on bikes with no lighting the streets were like whispering desth. We had more accidents around 5/7 am than during rush hour.
