Carbolic Soap

What's the difference between the carbolic soap found at Jupiter and the one sold by the Carbolic Soap Co? I've seen the latter before as they sell MWF as well.
Well spotted, it appears to be the same and cheaper, they also have a PayPal account making ordering easier.
It says it is not carbolic scented soap, it's the real deal. I will try a half kg bar from them. Half the price of Redbuoy! P.

Memories if school come flooding back thinking about that soap and the Izal toilet paper we had to use.

Dave

I remember the running joke when I was a kid about the industrial slick TP used in the public schools. It was "What is the resemblance between public school TP and Clint Eastwood? Neither takes sh*% off anyone." :D ;)

When I was a boy I had Lifebuoy for washing after working on the farm and 'posh' Imperial Leather for the bathroom. I love the smell of the Carbolic soap and might revisit it. Wright's Coal Tar was another favourite......but it is fragrance only now rather than the real thing.

The generosity of a fellow member has meant that I have been able to try the Blue power and it is great stuff....however I also have 3 x 1lb bars on order from The Carbolic Soap Company. Ther shipping charges seem to be fixed...or at least grouped. The postage for 3 bars is the same as for 1. If you know you like it.....this can make it a very good deal!

Hi chaps

Any updates on how good the Carbolic Soap Company stuff is?

The Jupiter website doesn't mention that it's the real deal. The gumph it gives on the 'Lifebuoy' soap page claims that it is regarded as the 'original' Lifebuoy soap, but then later says it conforms to the latest EU regs. So looks like that's just a con, old skool packaging and name, but not real carbolic soap! Their 'Redbuoy' soap looks dodgy too, it doesn't say either way if it is proper carbolic soap. Many customers would only buy it if it's proper carbolic soap, so you'd think if it were the real deal that they would say so. Stinks 'o rat to me!

The soap on the Etsy link is Blue Power soap, if you zoom in you can see it says 'BLUE POWER' on the label :)

Both Blue Power and the carbolic soap from the CSC are good. The real deal, ie contains carbolic acid, just like granny's block of soap ;)

I always did like the original....so when I found this thread....I was on a slippery slope.....so many good memories!

A very generous member gifted me a bar of Blue Power and I subsequently bought some of my own. I also have bought a number of large bars from CSC and I use it everywhere. The CSC soap is not as soft as the Blue Power. I have a mini saw and cut the CBC into smaller pieces. the sawdust (so to speak) I put in a jug and dissolve. This is used to clean work tops and the floor. I l have some in the hospital where I work. Its personal use only....so not an issue. I also use it in the shower......great stuff. The large CSC Carbolic Soap is definitely the way to go if you like carbolic soap. I bought 3 large bars....and the postage was the same as for 1. Makes it very cost effective. I intend to try some of their large bar Household soap for shirt collars....there should be no pink residue!

A carbolic soap made in the Caribbean called Seprod is very similar to the old Lifebuoy IMO, but I haven't been able to buy any for nigh onto a decade. :(

Hello my name is Richard Langham owner of JUPITER SOAPS LTD. Forgive me for commenting however I would like to clear up some comments made about REDBUOY Carbolic Household Soap, I would also like to thank “Bogeyman” for starting this thread. I started my company to try to bring the Lifebuoy Carbolic Household Soap back on to the market in 2000 as Unilever had discontinued production of this product in 1998.

I was unable to do this, however I did find that Unilever were still producing the 85g Lifebuoy Carbolic toilet soap bars in Cyprus, so arranged to import these into the UK.

In 2006/7 the EU ordered the removal of Carbolic Acid / Cresylic / Phenol (they are all the same) from toilet soap, beauty soap, shampoos, body washes, creams, shower gels etc etc. Unilever being a global ethical company immediately complied with Red Lifebuoy Soap, they reformulated it, changed the aroma and removed the Carbolic. It then became just another red soap with a perfume in it, nothing unique anymore. It still sold because of the brand name however many customers were unhappy. And now Unilever have discontinued production of Lifebuoy Soap in Europe. There is no Carbolic Lifebuoy Soap made anywhere in the world now.

After requests from many customers I decided that I would produce my own Carbolic Household Soap and call it REDBUOY, This took 2 years R & D, and it is now available. This is exactly how Lifebuoy Carbolic Household Soap used to be. The EU cosmetic rules do not apply to Household / Laundry soap. I hope this clears up some misconceptions I have read here. If anyone would like a free sample piece of the REDBUOY Soap, please email me at richard@jupitersoaps.co.uk

My new web site will have Pay Pal facilities.

I am sure many of you are aware of the postage details, at this date the minimum postal rate for any packet in the UK is £2.95p for packets up to 2kg, this is the same price for one 130g bar (as it won't fit through a letter box) and also for up to 6 twin packs.

Many thanks,

Richard…………

Well, as I am in the USA I won't trouble you with a sample request, but is anyone over here carrying it? I still have some bars left from your pre-EU regs. change that I am hoarding

Dear Bogeyman,

It is no problem that you are in the USA, please let me have your address and I will dispatch a sample piece of the Redbuoy Carbolic Household Soap.
