Chubby 2 holding onto its bounty!

I've recently aquired a Chubby 2 in best badger and have to say I love it. Over the past week or so I've noticed a slight flaw and don't know whether I'm to blame or is it just how the brush performs. This doesn't happen with my boar brush either.

Basically I get a great lather built up but by the time I get to pass 3 I need more soap from the brush. Another swirl in the bowl with a dab of water but not alot more comes out of the Chubby. Heres my problem. If I squeeze the brush with my hands, enough lather for about 2 more passes comes out so the soap is definitely in there and I don't think I'm light handed when loading it up.

What am I doing wrong?

I must point out I've ordered a scuttle with swirls in the bottom which I'm hoping will help as my current bowl is just a normal plain bowl.

It's a dense brush and do tend to hold onto a fair bit of lather, I have a few SHD brushes and find I need to give the brush a squeeze to get the last of it out, just comes as second nature now, not a lot more you can do its just the nature of the beast! :) P.

In a way that's the answer I wanted because at least I know I'm not doing something completely wrong then. Thanks P

Have you been using synthetic brushes unto the chubby. I've recently started to use a synth brush and notice the lather sits on the brush, where as with a badger, the lather goes into it. You get a really dense creamy lather in the centre. As mentioned, it's perfectly normal to squeeze out more lather.

Just a boar brush. I don't own a synthetic but plan on adding one to my collection soon. Might do this sooner than anticipated to see the difference(y)

Hello mate - I own the same brush - had it from new - as @Blademonkey - pointed out - it is going to hold onto some lather - simply because the knot is so dense - but this will alleviate to some degree the more you use it - the knot will change shape fairly dramatically - see pic below - what mine looks like now - that is it just after use incidentally. Just keep using it. A good trick - if you haven't tried it - squeeze out the remaining lather from the knot - when you have finished your shave - and apply it to your face - as you do the initial tidy up - then rinse it off - and do whatever post you normally do - this makes a big difference for me in the way my skin feels afterwards. See what you think yourself - keep at it - you seem to have got off to a good start - cheers - I.

Thanks for that advice. Certainly is a big difference in your brush and mine so maybe I've been too eager with it and expecting a certain performance right out of the box. Enjoying the experience regardless and gaining plenty of knowledge from all you guys along the way :)

This sounds as it is more to do with the soap or cream your are using. As the Chubby is a dense brush it needs plenty of soap. I have the synthetic version and its a lather monster without even trying!

Don't have the synthetic only brush I have is the chubby 2 Manchurian never had a problem getting 3 good passes with plenty left in the brush could just be your not loading enough for the knot density, maybe just looks like there is more left in the knot than there really is. I would suggest sticking with either using the remnants in the brush or load heavier

also I have the badger so could be completely different for synthetic but it only took a few uses to break in more or less ready from the box but definitely one you can feel just gets better with time and use. In my opinion your just not loading enough for the density but see what works best for you (that's) what it's all about.
All the best and enjoy

All trial and error for me at the minute so no harm giving that a go. I don't mind squeezing some soap out for the final pass but its worth trying to load more at the start of the shave and see how I get on. Thanks :)

To be honest I just tend to load heavily enough for 3 passes and touch ups and whatever's left I just rinse out maybe a bit wasteful but I honestly think the nature of a dense knot is a bit wasteful but also lots of fun to lather with
