Creed Aventus - any good...?

UPDATE

Since first posting, I've explored Aventus on Basenotes and have come to realise that this is nothing to do with fragrance at all but is, in fact, a religious cult, complete with a variety of sub-sects, presided over by a mysterious figure known as 'The Grand Pineapple'. I suspect you have to wear a saffron robe and chant while using it, as well.

Many thanks for all your informative comments here.

@Benz3ne has kindly offered to send me a sample of the Mr Perfume clone. I have thanked him personally, and take the opportunity to do so publicly here.

Many thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier question on Creed Original Vetiver. I eventually went down the sample route, and found it not really to my liking.

So the search for next spring/summer fragrance continues, and I'm looking at Aventus.

I understand that something of a cult has grown up around this scent, and that it smells of apples and pears...but that's about it.

Reading through previous posts, I also gather that there are pretty good clones out there. But can anyone fill me in on the real deal?

Thanks Gents!

By far one of my favourite fragrances out there. Smokey pineapple & black currant, make it very masculine & unique. Yes it's expensive, but well worth the price tag.

A fresh scent, would you say? Or a warm one? I'm thinking of something for the spring/summer?

*Just seen the price! You're right - this isn't cheap, is it!

I'd say try the Mr Perfume variety that's all the rage right now! It's apparently a very close approximation to the real thing. I've picked up on its cult status and have to say from sampling Fine Platinum A/s and the Mr Perfume oil variant I can see why. Tangy and fruity, not cloying.

If you want something a little more underrated, or rather a little less stated, Macera Cedrat Boise has the same sort of smokey, leathery, fruity vibe but is far more rounded to my nose.

If you're UK-based drop me a PM and I'll do up a small sample of the Mr Perfume one. :)

Interesting that you pick up a smokey note from Cedrat Boise... I get a much more fruity woody scent overall compared to Aventus.

I own a bottle of Mancera Cedrat Boise (which I love BTW) and I'd say it's more in your face than Aventus. Or it could be I go nose blind with Aventus. It has been mentioned the wearer stops smelling it quite quickly but those around you still do.
Both are amazing performers. The projection is staggering.

@factormax The Fine Platinum aftershave is very close to Aventus but I have no experience with any other clones.

Another summer scent to check out are Aqua Di Parma Acqua di Parma 'Colonia' and Acqua di Parma Colonia 'Assoluta'.

Ah, yes! Acqua di Parma Colonia! I used that for years, then suddenly went off it. A kind of OD, I suspect!

It's definitely fruitier but I'm certain I pick up some smokey woodsy tones. Probably not quite as much as Aventus mind you, though I don't have the original real deal to compare to. :)
