GEM Pushbutton blades.

I've only got a 10x loup but on inspection of a new blade it looks hollow ground to me but please check for yourself with your microscope. P.
My "microscope" is a thingy I clip on the camera of my phone. Nothing too fancy... I call it "microscope " though. I like to think Robert Hooke would have loved to have access to it in 1700... maybe his stuff was better...

Greetings

I think you will find the statement hollow ground to be somewhat misleading but factually true.

If the edge is put on with a revolving abrasive wheel or a large diameter revolving abrasive belt no matter what the diameter of the wheel or belt it will give a hollow ground edge even if the hollow is so ludicrously gentle/shallow to be imperceptible, the edge is still hollow ground; certainly for the purpose of advert speak!

Dick.

Good point. I let them off on a technicality then.
As an ex-mathematician I must however claim that any blade is hollow ground, the diameter of the wheel or belt might be infinite though :D

Still better than my 10x loup and bad eyesight :) I too would be happy to be proved wrong, all I've got to go on is the old ER literature and what I can make out with my loup. Regardless, I still prefer these old blades over the new Gem blades and with daily Stropping they just last and last, I stopped counting the number of great shaves I was getting from one blade! Now that's value for money! :) P.

Did not know where to put this question.
Do Gem ss blades get smoother after a couple of shaves. I have had 5 shaves with a 1914 and it seems smoother than to begin with.
Or am i just getting better at using the razor.
